KHARTOUM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Karti said on Friday his visit to China carried reassurances and confirmations to the Chinese side his government keenness to enhance cooperation with China even after a referendum to be held in southern Sudan."We have delivered a message on our keenness on continuation in enhancing the cooperation with China and expanding its investments in the country, particularly in north Sudan," Karti told reporters at Khartoum airport today upon return from a tour that included China and Egypt."China is an important country for Sudan and we are keen to fully coordinate with it, particularly with regard to current international issues. BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) - China is still likely to meet its full-year inflation target this year despite the August inflation rate quickening to a 22-month high of 3.5 percent year on year, officials from the country' s top economic planer said Wednesday.In August, the consumer price index (CPI) rose mainly by increased prices of food products like pork and eggs, as the coming Mid-Autumn festival in China had boosted the consumption of food items, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).Further, the price rise of vegetables due to seasonal reasons contributed to the August CPI increase, said the NDRC authorities.The upcoming autumn harvest, which accounts for about 70 percent of China's annual grain output, is expected to stabilize food prices, which have a one-third weighting in the calculation of the CPI, said the NDRC.The NDRC also revealed that China would place central pork reserves on the market, which means pork prices cannot rise higher.Further, the industrial consumer prices are remaining stable with a slight decline, and this is not conducive to inflation, according to the NDRC.These elements are assisting in the drop of the CPI through the rest of the year, and is helpful for China to attain its full year inflation target, it added.China has targeted a 3 percent rise in consumer prices this year.

TIANJIN, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China could meet the full-year inflation target of 3 percent if macro-control policies were effective, a senior economic planner said Tuesday at the World Economic Forum's annual Summer Davos meeting."China has paid high attention to managing inflation expectations by stepping up macro-controls this year," said Zhang Xiaoqiang, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission."If managed well, the full-year target of consumer price index of around 3 percent is still attainable," he said.The CPI climbed to a 22-month-high of 3.5 percent in August because of rises in food and fuel prices and a low comparison base.Food prices are likely to remain within reasonable range after macro-control and there is still room for industrial products to fall due to heated competition, Zhang said.The chance is also small for import prices of commodities to experience a dramatic rise again in the rest of the year after earlier retreating, he said.
