(KGTV) - Surveillance video shows a thief going shopping overnight at a trailer company in Escondido."It's heartbreaking," said Alea Barreto, manager at Norco Trailers.Barreto says on Saturday night, video shows a pickup truck parked outside their fence. Nearby, a man appears to be scoping things out. The next night, just before midnight, he's back. He retrieves something from the truck and uses it to cut a hole in the fence. Once that happens, he backs his truck through the hole and onto the property, before he begins hauling away trailers. On the video, a man in a hoodie is seen browsing the lot. He hitches a landscaping trailer, but before he can get it out, the trailer becomes detached. He attaches it and drives off."Every time I watch it, it's more painful," said Barreto.The pain is felt over and over. Not long after the truck is seen leaving, the truck is back and hauling away another trailer. Within a few hours, four trailers are stolen. Three of the thefts are caught on video. The total loss is about ,000. The company is insured, but a possible hike in insurance rates is not worth it. They've decided to eat the cost. The business is a family-owned shop. "Just trying to put food on the family table, and nope, someone else feels like they deserve it instead," said Barreto.The truck is believed to be a silver GMC or Chevy pickup. ESCONDIDO, Calif., (KGTV) — Farmers in North County are reacting to the President’s new immigration plans. 10News spoke to an avocado farmer out of Fallbrook at the San Diego County Farm Bureau annual luncheon in Escondido Saturday morning.Charles Wolk owns Bejoca Company. The avocado growers said long hours in the hot sun is not easy work. He said farm work requires skill. “Farm workers are not unskilled,” Wolk said, contrasting the President’s definition of skilled laborers.On Thursday, President Trump said he wants a “big portion” of immigrants to come into the United States through a merit system. Points will be awarded to immigrants who are English-speaking, highly skilled workers like doctors and engineers, and to those who have jobs already lined up. These immigrants are not people who could become Wolk’s employees. “What he said is not going to help fill the need for agriculture labor,” Wolk said, especially because many of his employees, who have been with him for more than 30 years, are aging out.“They are getting older, and they’re literally retiring. And there’s nothing coming in behind them, whether it’s immigrant or people in the United States,” Wolk said. “We just don’t have any relief in sight,” San Diego County Farm Bureau Executive Director, Eric Larson, said. “Our challenge is convincing the President and the members of Congress that agriculture is a skilled labor, and we need those workers here.”Wolk has looked into other avenues of finding workers. For example, there is the H-2A Visa, which allows immigrants to come to the United States, specifically for seasonal agricultural work. It requires employees to provide free housing, food, and in some cases, transportation. “The H-2A Program is cumbersome and expensive, especially for a small employer,” Wolk said. So at this point, he says he has no Plan B.But Wolk is optimistic. He believes legislators will realize the importance of American agriculture. Even foreign engineers cannot survive without food in their stomachs.“It might push out the requirements for the engineer,” Wolk laughed. “If you don’t have someone to produce the food we eat.”At this point, there is no indication that a provision for farm laborers will be added to the President’s plan. 2266

FALLBROOK (CNS) - One person was killed on Interstate 15 near Fallbrook early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash that may have involved alcohol, authorities said.California Highway Patrol officers were first alerted to the crash shortly after 5 a.m. when a truck driver reported seeing a damaged car with an injured person inside stop momentarily at the truck scales in Rainbow before continuing on northbound I-15, CHP Officer Mark Latulippe said.Officers called hospitals in Temecula and Murrieta to check if there were any walk-in patients who could have been involved in the crash, and eventually were alerted that apparent victims had turned up at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta, according to a CHP incident log.One passenger involved in the crash, identified as a 20-year-old man from Winchester, was pronounced dead at the hospital, Latulippe said. Another passenger, a 21-year-old Torrance man, sustained moderate injuries and the driver, a 23-year-old man also from Torrance, was not injured.The driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, Latulippe said.Officers were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and determined it occurred on northbound I-15 past state Route 76.Evidence suggested that the car struck a call box, lost control toward the center divider and may have returned to the right shoulder before continuing on the freeway, Latulippe said.Officers asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the CHP Border Communications Center at (858) 637-3800. 1538

"Hugs to make them feel like there is hope for our future, that this is not going to be our future forever."We will have contact with our families, and we will find ways to overcome anything that comes our way.”Families said the human touch with their relatives was especially comforting.“We have been up to visit him a couple of times where we could pass things to him," said Barbra Culp, who was visiting her 96-year-old father. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — Police are searching for the driver responsible for hitting and killing a woman on a North County freeway this week.A person lying on the right shoulder of westbound State route 78 under the Rock Springs Rd. overcrossing was reported to police just after 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to California Highway Patrol.Escondido Fire Department and CHP found a 26-year-old female from Escondido, who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle, dead on the right shoulder.No vehicle was found at the scene. CHP is investigating how and why the woman was on the freeway.The suspect vehicle is described as a 2017/2018 Mercedes Benz E-Class sedan and believed to be green. CHP said the vehicle should have damage to its right front fender and wheel well.Anyone with information on the collision is asked to call CHP at 858-637-3800. 853
