Have you ever looked at a person in an ad and wondered, what do they look like in real life? Now, with at least one company's ads, you won't have to wonder.CVS has unveiled a beauty campaign using un-retouched images, aimed at creating a more realistic standard of beauty. But do they really look that different?It's called the Beauty in Real Life campaign. CVS says the goal of this campaign is to create a new and more realistic standard of beauty. The way you can tell if an ad is a part of the campaign is it has a CVS Beauty Mark, a white stamp watermark that reads beauty unaltered.If you see the stamp on an ad it means that the images in the ad haven't been "materially altered." That means the brand did not "digitally alter or change a person's shape, size, proportion, skin or eye color or enhance or alter lines, wrinkles or other individual characteristics."So essentially if you saw the person in the ad walking down the street, they would look like they do in the ad. That's the goal, because in general, the editing of photos in ads really has has an impact on how women and girls feel about themselves.A survey found two out of three women strongly agree that the media has set an unrealistic standard of beauty. 80% of women feel worse about themselves after seeing a beauty ad. 90% of girls ages 15 to 17 want to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance.We asked a few people what they think about this new initiative."I think that's awesome," one woman said. "I think we've been given unrealistic beauty standards for a really long time. So it's really nice to see companies putting in women who actually look like me. I don't have to have these unrealistic standards of what I should look like. I think it's a really awesome thing."Other women felt differently."Non touching is a good start," one woman said. "But if I saw that I would be like, real life? I don't know if I'd look like that in real life."Her friend agreed."When I wake up I do not look like that in real life," the woman said. "So I think like the touch up is a good start, but for that like slogan for the campaign I feel it's sending the wrong message in a way."This campaign is rolling out now digitally and the goal is for all the images in the beauty sections of CVS stores to reflect transparency by the end of 2020. 2339
FROSTPROOF, Fla. — The triple murder of three close friends is under investigation in Florida.The Polk County Sheriff's Office says around 10:06 p.m. on Friday, one victim, 27-year-old Rollins, called his dad for help. Officials say his dad knew Brandon had gone fishing with two of his friends, 30-year-old Keven Springfield and 23-year-old Damion Tillman, who were also victims. All were from Frostproof.Brandon's dad drove to the unincorporated area of Frostproof and when he arrived, he found his son barely alive, officials say. The other two friends were found dead.Brandon's dad drove to a close-by gas station to call 911.When first responders arrived, all three victims were found dead. Officials said they appeared to have been beaten and shot."This is a horrific scene. I've been to a lot of murder scenes in my life and this ranks among the worst I've been to," said Sheriff Grady Judd.According to families, the three men were best friends and knew each other for years. They said the three men were fishing on land, not in a boat."We are seeking leads. We need help so we can solve this crime sooner rather than later because there are one or more, we suspected more, murderers, that killed three people in a quiet community," said Sheriff Judd.The sheriff's office is asking for the public's help on any information on the incident. GLENDORA, Calif. (CNS) - A chase suspect who allegedly stole drills led authorities on an over two-hour pursuit Tuesday afternoon from Glendora to downtown Los Angeles, at one point stopping at a gas station to fill up his tank.The chase started about 4:10 p.m. after the suspect allegedly stole drills from The Home Depot store located at 1305 S. Lone Hill Ave., according to Lt. James De Mond of the Glendale Police Department.By 5:10 p.m., the suspect was in the unincorporated Avocado Heights area near Industry, where he pulled into a gas station near Valley Boulevard and Santa Mariana Avenue.It appeared that one person ran from the vehicle, and the driver stood outside the vehicle for a couple of minutes before getting back inside and driving westbound on Valley Boulevard.Shortly after, the suspect pulled into another gas station near Valley Boulevard and Peck Road, and ran inside the store to apparently pay for gasoline. He pumped gas briefly then got back onto Valley Boulevard.He drove on multiple freeways throughout the pursuit, including the Long Beach (710), San Bernardino (10), Pomona (60) and Santa Ana (101) freeways, where he exited at Fourth Street and drove into downtown Los Angeles.It was not immediately clear what happened to the suspect after he entered downtown Los Angeles about 6:20 p.m. 1331
HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - As coronavirus continues to rage across the country, scientists are inching closer to developing a COVID-19 vaccine.Dr. Doug Mitchell used to be a pediatric infectious diseases specialist at CHKD and EVMS. He is currently the medical director of CHKD Medical Group and a pediatrician at Norfolk Pediatrics.“If we’re able to stick to the science in developing the vaccine, then that would be comforting if we could stick to the science and develop an effective and safe vaccine,” said Mitchell.Mitchell said the speed at which researchers are developing a vaccine to combat COVID-19 is nothing short of a miracle, but sticking to the clinical science behind the advancement is key for an effective and safe vaccine - and that takes time.“The stated goal that I saw by the CDC and/or FDA of wanting a vaccine that shows at least 50% protection and six months of safety data, that takes time,” he said. “We need a chance to show the safety profile of any new vaccine under the parameters of following the best science that we could follow.”Mitchell understands the process involved in developing a vaccine.More than 20 years ago, he was an investigator in several pediatric clinical trials. Many of the vaccines that came out of his lab are still used in children today.While there are still growing concerns about vaccines, the benefits outweigh the risks.“The flu vaccine clearly saves lives, clearly prevents illnesses, but it’s not 100% protective either, but we know it does have benefits,” Mitchell said. “The advantage there is the flu vaccine has been out for decades and we know its safety profile.”Similar to the rapid speed of developing a COVID-19 vaccine, Mitchell said a vaccine for H1N1, better known as the swine flu, was quickly put on the market.“The difference is, we already had decades of history of flu vaccines and their safety, so all that happened was developing the same flu vaccine that was protective against a different strain,” he said. “That’s a different ballgame than starting a vaccine against a totally different virus.”While the research continues, the fight against COVID-19 is far from over.According to Mitchell, the spread of the virus decreases when you reach heard immunity where enough of the population is immune.This story was first reported by Antoinette DelBel at WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia. 2363
