SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Google announced Wednesday that Google Earth, the tech giant's virtual globe, map and geographical information program, has been downloaded more than one billion times since it was first introduced in 2005.According to Google's official blog, there have been more than one billion downloads of the Google Earth desktop client, mobile apps and the Google Earth plug-in. To celebrate the milestone, Google is aggregating all the interesting ways people have used Google Earth around the world and posting them on "www. BERLIN, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Sino-German strategic partnership has been further intensified and expanded in the year 2011, Chinese Ambassador to Germany Wu Hongbo told Xinhua in a recent interview prior to China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin's visit to Germany.The frequent, high-level mutual visits between China and Germany have pushed forward progress of political, economic, cultural and other cooperations steadily, and strengthened the communication and coordination on key international and regional issues, he said.This year has featured frequent mutual visits between the leaders of China and Germany, as Vice Premier Li Keqiang visited Germany at the start of the year, followed by the first round of bilateral minister-level strategic dialogue between German vice-chancellor and foreign minister Guido Westerwelle and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi during Westerwelle's visit to China three months later.In June, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his German counterpart Angela Merkel co-chaired the first round of China-Germany inter-governmental consultation. YANGON, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar surgeons have successfully separated the fifth conjoined twin baby girls, official media reported Thursday.The surgical operation by Dr. Htoo Han and his assistants was performed on the two-year-and-one-month-old conjoined twins named Ma Ingyin Khaing and Ma Ingyin Hlaing in the Children's Hospital in Yangon Wednesday, according to the New Light of Myanmar daily.The separated twins, who are under extensive care in the hospital, are from Kawtin village in Laungton township in southern Tanintharyi region.Myanmar surgeons had carried out four successful similar surgical operations on twins in the past over two decades.The fourth twins, who are also baby girls named So Pyay Lin and So Pyay Win with their chests joined together, were successfully separated in October 2009.

BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Autism can likely develop when low birth weight babies are combined with other factors such as environment and genetic predisposition, new research suggests.Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and School of Medicine identified 1,105 children who weighed less than 2,000 grams at birth between Oct. 1, 1984, and July 3, 1989.Sixteen years later, researchers were able to reach 623 of those children, and used a questionnaire to screen them for autism spectrum disorders.When 189 of the children turned 21 years old, 60 percent of those who screened positive for an autism spectrum disorder, and 24 percent of those who screened negative with the condition. All in all, the rate of autism spectrum disorders among the study participants with low birth weights was five times higher than the general.Autism spectrum disorder makes people have difficulty communicating, difficulty interacting in social situations, and restrictive or repetitive interests, said study co-author Jennifer Pinto-Martin, a researcher in the University.Those with mild autism spectrum disorders, "may only want to talk about one subject," Pinto-Martin said. "They're perfectly functional. They can go to college. They can hold a job." Premature babies are often born with low birth weights, though full-term babies can also have the condition. The research suggests a need not only for better prenatal care to reduce the number of premature babies, but also a need for early diagnosis and intervention for people with autism.
