SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Rocks or BB pellets have hit more than a dozen taxis as they traveled near the San Diego International Airport over the past week, cab drivers told 10News.The attacks along Harbor Drive have left cracks in their windshields and dents in the vehicles’ sides, cabbies said.“It's life threatening and we are just shocked what's going on,” said cabbie Ahmad Saddat-Nejad.Saddat-Nejad, who has been driving for almost 30 years, said he has never had anything like these attacks happen.“My car was not even in motion. Suddenly, I hear ‘boom’. Somebody threw a rock,” he said, reporting an incident on Harbor Drive at Laurel Street.“It happened to five cars yesterday again,” said Alex Tegegne of the San Diego Taxi Association.Tegegne said the attacks occur every night after dark, from North Harbor Drive down the Embarcadero.“We start to say do we need a helmet, or what should we do now? Should we avoid going on Harbor? What can we do,” Tegegne told 10News.In all, 17 cabs have been targeted.“It is totally very scary, and the customers don't feel comfortable about it,” said Tegegne.Cab drivers say they can’t afford to lose those customers. The success of Uber and Lyft have taken a toll on the taxi industry.“We don't know if this thing is taking business from us. We are already on life support to begin with, but this will be another threat to our customers and also ourselves," Tegegne said. The threat could be enough to put drivers out of work.“He could have killed me and I’m scared of driving now. This is my living and how I’m supporting my family,” said Ezzaddin Fato.San Diego Harbor Police confirm the arrest of one suspect Saturday, but said another attack has happened since then. The Port of San Diego is also investigating the matter. 1776

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Monday a motion to reduce thousands of marijuana convictions. The motion asks the San Diego Superior Court to reduce 25,000 marijuana convictions, ranging from felonies to misdemeanors, and dismiss another 1,000 misdemeanor convictions completely.“We’ve been a leader in the state and pro-active on giving individuals with marijuana convictions the opportunity to move forward with their lives without a conviction that may have been negatively impacting their lives by restricting their employment or housing,” said Stephan. “This latest motion is the continuation of work that began more than two years ago. It’s clear that the law was written to allow this relief, and it’s important that we give full effect to the will of the people.”RELATED: Los Angeles uses tech to wipe out 66,000 old pot convictionsUnder AB 1793, passed in 2018, the DA's office must notify the court of eligible cases by July 1, 2020. But according to the DA's office, officials have actively been reducing or dismissing eligible marijuana cases under 2016's Proposition 64, which legalized recreational cannabis. Since 2016, the DA's office says it has reduced or dismissed more than 1,600 marijuana-related convictions.Under Prop 64, sections regarding cultivation of marijuana, possession for sale of marijuana, and sales and/or transporting marijuana — all felonies — qualify for resentencing. The misdemeanor of possession of marijuana also qualifies.“The Superior Court and Public Defender are critical to this voluminous project and we appreciate that they’ve made it a priority,” Stephan added. 1658

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego officials plan to expand and speed up an audit of water billing issues, after admitting more than 300 residents were incorrectly overcharged last year.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, joined by City Councilmembers Chris Cate and Lorie Zapf, City Auditor Eduardo Luna, and Public Utilities Department (PUD) Director Vic Bianes, said the audit will help find any possible inaccuracies and suggest any needed changes."San Diegans need to be able to trust that their bills are correct, that the new technology we are implementing is working properly, and that every cent they pay goes to making sure we have safe, reliable water," Faulconer said. "I welcome this independent review of operations to determine how we can better serve our customers and reassure them that we are doing everything we can to ensure the accuracy of their bills."RELATED: Woman gets 0 water bill. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego area firefighters are being thanked for their hard work with free admission to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.Firefighters and up to three guests will receive free one-day admission to the Escondido park in September. The deal is being offered by California Coast Credit Union and San Diego Zoo Global.“Firefighters are true heroes and we are proud to join San Diego Zoo Global in recognizing them for their tremendous efforts to keep us all safe from fires,” said Cal Coast President & CEO Todd Lane. “As part of our partnership with the City of San Diego, we will continue to look for ways to serve and support San Diego Fire Department personnel.”The fast response of San Diego County firefighters was critical in putting out the Pasqual, Rangeland and Cloverdale Fires near the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. In two cases, park employees prepared crates to evacuate the animals, if needed.Firefighters must present department identification or union identification with a photo, in addition to a personal ID, at any Safari Park ticket window.      1111
