As the pandemic hits the economy hard, lenders and credit card issuers are offering payment modification programs such as forbearance and deferrals. The coronavirus relief package enacted March 27 requires that accounts that were in good standing before modification be reported as current as long as the consumer abides by the agreement. But for many consumers with federal student loans, relief over a 6-month automatic pause on payments turned into dismay as credit scores plummeted. Consumers complained on social media that their accounts were wrongly reported as delinquent or in non-payment status. That’s not how it was supposed to work, says credit expert John Ulzheimer, who has worked for credit bureau Equifax and scoring company FICO. He says student loan servicers are working to address problems, and he hasn’t heard of similar issues involving other types of lenders or credit card issuers. If your credit score drops, here’s how to diagnose what’s going on and what to do next.First, check your credit reportsWhether you have payment modifications or not, it’s a good idea to regularly check that your credit activity is being reported correctly.Through April 2021, consumers can access free credit reports weekly from each of the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian and TransUnion — by 1323
Braxton Ryback, 25, and Johnny Young, 22, were recently arrested by Las Vegas police after threatening to shoot up the XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas. The incident happened Aug. 10. Police were told that Ryback and Young were shouting "White privilege, white power, we are white supremacist" and locking their fists like they were going to hit people. Police were also told that the men told security that they were going to come back and shoot the place up. Young then allegedly returned to the hotel-casino with pepper spray.During an interview with police, Young told police that he had a weapon in his vehicle at the Wynn and another weapon in his apartment. He also told police that Ryback spent time on a website called "Daily Stormer" and that he shared Ryback's beliefs. Young also told police that he was drunk and angry at security because they had stopped him from taking photos of security cameras but he never had any intention of hurting someone. He said he intended to only use the pepper spray for protection if needed. 1046
British Prime Minister Theresa May has formally requested a delay to the country's departure from the European Union and blamed UK lawmakers for failing to pass her Brexit deal. After promising on scores of occasions that Brexit would take place on March 29, May finally bowed to the inevitable and asked the EU to extend the divorce process. But in a stern statement in Downing Street on Wednesday evening, May blamed the delay on Members of Parliament for failing to back her deal. She said the British public wanted them to "get on with it" and said it was "high time" for them to take a decision.Calling the delay to Brexit a "matter of great personal regret," May said the British public "have had enough" and are tired of political infighting. "So far Parliament has done everything possible to avoid making a choice. All MPs have been willing to say is what they do not want," she said.Earlier, May told the House of Commons she had written to European Council President Donald Tusk, asking for a three-month delay to Brexit, until June 30.Tusk said in Brussels later that a short extension "should be possible," but on one condition -- that the UK Parliament passes May's Brexit deal.Just last week the Prime Minister 1236
AT&T is launching a new internet-delivered TV service Monday as it struggles with a shrinking DirecTV satellite business. The new service, AT&T TV, will have most of the same channels offered on DirecTV, but it’ll come over the internet rather than a satellite dish. AT&T has been testing the service in 13 markets and is now making it available to anyone. AT&T will send subscribers an Android streaming-TV box to use the service. The free device will also come with Netflix and other streaming apps, the way Comcast’s X1 cable box does. Additional boxes cost 0.The channel lineups and prices are comparable with what’s available from DirecTV, but AT&T TV doesn’t have NFL Sunday Ticket, a package of out-of-market football games. The company is trying to adapt to the shift to streaming video, as subscribers to traditional cable and satellite TV services fall. In May, it’s launching HBO Max, a 931
