Tucson Police's Operation Division South Motor Squad took a different and non-traditional approach to help raise awareness for safe driving on Thursday.According to the department, mannequins were placed at different intersections around Tucson in an effort to lower collision statistics and urge drivers to pay better attention to their driving and what is around them. The mannequins were dressed like officers and placed in and around police vehicles near intersections that are or have been known for vehicle crashes.This is the first time TPD has utilized this method by using mannequins.Tucson Police said drivers can expect to see the mannequins out again Aug. 21 but the location has yet to be determined.  732

Two days after President Donald Trump’s visit to the city, Democratic nominee Joe Biden met with members of Jacob Blake’s family on Thursday before hosting a community discussion on race.Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney who is representing the Blake family, said that the former vice president met with Blake's family for nearly 90 minutes. Blake joined for part of the conversation via telephone from his hospital bed, both Crump and Biden confirmed.“The family was grateful for the meeting and was very impressed that the Bidens were so engaged and willing to really listen,” Crump said. “Jacob's mother led them all in prayer for Jacob's recovery. They talked about changing the disparate treatment of minorities in police interactions, the impact of selecting Kamala Harris as a Black woman as his running mate. and Vice President Biden's plans for change. Mr. Blake Sr. talked about the need for systemic reform because the excessive use of force by police against minorities has been going on for far too long.”Biden said that Jacob Blake told him “nothing is going to defeat” him."I had an opportunity to spend some time with Jacob [Blake] on the phone. Update, Mar. 1: The Board of Immigration Appeals granted an emergency stay Friday for Constantin Bakala. He'll likely return to Etowa, Alabama where his detention officer is located. Bakala's appeal could take months. The family will be working with an immigration attorney to bring Bakala to California.SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A father of seven who migrated to America to flee persecution in Africa is set to be deported Friday night. Constantin Bakala was imprisoned in the Republic of Congo after supporting the wrong political power. Police allegedly raped his wife, killing their unborn child, robbed their businesses, killed their dog, and tried to poison the entire family. Bakala escaped from prison and took his family on a journey to America. On the way, their boat sank, and some of the children almost died. Once they got to America, Bakala was sent to Georgia. The rest of the family stayed in San Diego. Bakala went before a judge in Georgia who is known for being strict on asylum seekers. The judge ruled that he be deported. Meanwhile, Bakala's family in San Diego was granted asylum.Thursday, the day before Bakala was set to be deported, the family met in front of the federal courthouse to ask for help. Bakala’s wife Annie said, “I’m asking for your help because you know the laws and you are a champion of our protection. I’m asking for your strength because I have none left.”St. Luke’s Episcopal Church joined the family in their fight. Pastor Colin Mathewson said, “Bakala will die if we don’t help him. This is a life and death matter.”After the rally, the group took 500 signatures up to the federal ICE office. Congressman Juan Vargas has been very helpful in getting a stay for Bakala. However, the first stay will run out Friday. They have also asked for an emergency stay of deportation from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, but time is running out.The father will be deported Friday night to Morocco if nothing changes. 1956
