SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police arrested two people and seized various merchandise from an illegal marijuana dispensary, an officer said today.Narcotics investigators served a search warrant at the dispensary, called Miramar Private Club, around 10 a.m. Thursday, San Diego Police Lt. Matt Novak said in a statement. The dispensary was operating in a building near the intersection of Spectrum Lane and Camino Santa Fe.Police arrested and issued citations to two employees for possession of marijuana for sale and operating a business without a permit.Officers seized six pounds of "high-grade" marijuana, more than 800 pounds of marijuana concentrates and edibles and ,300 in cash, Novak said.They also found information that led to the search of an apartment in Mission Valley, off Reflection Drive north of Friars Road, believed to be associated with the dispensary.There, officers seized an additional three pounds of marijuana, more concentrates and edibles and ,500 in cash.Narcotics detectives will continue to investigate illegally operating dispensaries in San Diego, Novak said."All owners and employees found operating these illegal businesses will be arrested and prosecuted," Novak said in the statement. 1222

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose seven-tenths of a cent today to .567, its highest amount since Aug. 26, 2015.The average price has risen 21 times in the past 26 days, increasing 13.3 cents, including seven-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.The average price is 2.1 cents more than one week ago, 15.9 cents higher than one month ago and 54.9 cents greater than one year ago. It has risen 44.5 cents since the start of the year."Underlying gasoline wholesale prices have wavered within a range of about 10 cents for about the past month, allowing pump prices to remain relatively stable for this time of year," said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager."Barring any major incidents affecting supply or oil prices, it seems unlikely right now that price averages will push as high as a gallon this spring." 1014

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Attorney's Office Thursday urged families with guns in the home to practice proper firearm safety while self- quarantining to keep the weapons out of the hands of children.With stay-at-home orders issued at the state and local levels, and schools closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Attorney Mara Elliott's office said gun safety is paramount."When you have guns and children in the home and do not practice safe storage, you are increasing the risk that someone will be accidentally shot," Elliott said. "Children are very resourceful when it comes to locating things their parents thought they'd never find. When they find a gun, it often leads to tragedy."The city's Safe Storage of Firearms Ordinance, which was authored by Elliott and went into effect last year, requires San Diego gun owners to store firearms in a locked container or to secure guns with a trigger lock unless they are in the immediate control of an authorized user.The City Attorney's Office said trigger locks and gun safes are readily available for purchase online and that all guns sold in California after Jan. 1, 2002, were required to come with a free trigger lock.Elliott's office said 4.5 million children nationwide live in homes with one more loaded and unlocked firearms.Firearm retailers nationwide have seen an uptick in firearm sales amid the coronavirus pandemic, and it remains unclear whether gun stores might be ordered to close locally.In one of the county's coronavirus-related briefings, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said firearm stores were not considered essential businesses that should remain open per the state's stay-at-home order.Earlier this week, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said his office was awaiting further guidance from the governor's office, and would not force gun stores to close in the meantime, citing a concern that doing so would push consumers to purchase guns on the black market.On Wednesday, Gov. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County health officials have reported 2,416 new COVID-19 infections and 11 new deaths, marking 107,372 total cases and 1,162 deaths.Sunday marked the fifth consecutive day that more than 2,000 new cases were reported, with 2,490 cases reported Saturday, 2,867 cases -- a record - - reported Friday, 2,050 reported Thursday and 2,104 Wednesday. It is also the 13th day with more than 1,000 new cases. It is just the sixth time the daily cases have crossed 2,000 -- all of which have come in the past week.Of 25,274 tests reported Saturday, 10% returned positive.The number of hospitalizations also continued to rise, with 39 people hospitalized and 11 patients put in intensive care units.The county's hospitals have 16% of their ICU beds available, down from 21% Thursday. The state now estimates the ICU bed availability in the 11- county Southern California region at 4.2%, down from 7.7% on Thursday.In the San Joaquin Valley, only 1.5% of ICU beds are available. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol arrested 58 people for alleged intoxicated driving in San Diego County during its annual Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period this year.CHP officers made the arrests between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Sunday in the agency's jurisdiction in the county, which includes all freeways, as well as roads in unincorporated areas.All available officers were to be deployed to catch drunk or drug- impaired drivers, speeders and other traffic violators during the enforcement period.Last year, 66 people were arrested for impaired driving in San Diego County over the Thanksgiving holiday.Statewide, the agency made 855 arrests for impaired driving during the enforcement period, down from 965 last year. And 44 traffic fatalities were reported across all California jurisdictions -- two of which were in San Diego County.
