SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A fire that burned near SDSU Sunday afternoon, forcing the evacuation of a nearby apartment complex has been contained. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the fire burned roughly two and a half acres. University Police evacuated the Villa Alvarado Apartments during the blaze. Evacuees were asked by the school to report to the Tula Community Center at 6126 Montezuma Road. As of 2:18 p.m. evacuations were still in place. San Diego Fire-Rescue Tweeted around 1 p.m. that the blaze was burning on the 5500 block of Canyon Crest near SDSU. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 55-year-old man was arrested Friday after hitting a 19-year-old with his car following a drunken argument, San Diego Police say.According to police, the suspect, Fernando Chavez Lopez, 55, got into an argument with a 19-year-old man before 11 a.m. Friday. Lopez was reportedly drunk at the time of the dispute. After the argument ended, police say Lopez went looking for the victim, locating him crossing the street at an intersection on the 3100 block on National Avenue.Police say the suspect deliberately drove his vehicle into the victim, hitting him before taking off when police were called.Ten minutes later, officers found the suspect driving on the 1100 block of Sicard Street. He was detained and later positively identified by witnesses, police say.The victim sustained minor scrapes and bruises and was taken to the hospital.Lopez was arrested and booked into jail, police say. 919

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A California couple who operated a charity that claimed to provide goods to San Diegans in need has been sentenced to prison.Geraldine Hill and Clayton Hill pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and tax evasion in June, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California. Geraldine has been sentenced to 15 months in prison while Clayton was sentenced to 9 months in prison.The couple operated On Your Feet, also known as Family Resource Center. From 2011 to 2016, the pair obtained more than .35 million in donated clothing and other items and claimed the items would be given to the needy, according to prosecutors. The items were supposed to benefit low-income families in San Diego.“While fraud is always wrong, the theft of charitable donations that were to be used to help San Diego’s low income families is particularly disheartening,” said Acting FBI Special Agent in Charge Omer Meisel. “This type of fraud and deceit for personal gain simply cannot be tolerated. The FBI is committed to ensuring that white collar predators don’t prevent those less fortunate from receiving all the benefits that generous donors provide to seemingly legitimate non-profit organizations.”The Hills only donated about ,000 in charitable donations and sold the remaining items, using the proceeds to support themselves, their family, and lavish spending, prosecutors say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A broken water line in Tijuana sent a mixture of potable water and untreated sewage across the U.S.-Mexico border. The 7.8 million gallon spill, which started Sunday night at 7:30 p.m., was stopped Monday afternoon, according to a spokesperson from the International Boundary Water Commission.A spokesperson for the IBWC said the 16-inch potable water line broke near Agua Caliente Blvd. in Tijuana. The ruptured portion of the pipe has been repaired.Mexican water officials shut down Tijuana’s pump station because the water flow exceeded the station’s capacity, the IBWC said. “Water and untreated waste water continues to flow into the United States,” said IBWC officials.County Beach and Bay Monitoring Program staff members tell 10News the flow was stopped before it could impact local beaches and there is no risk at this time. 860
