If you’re among the 40 million people online looking for love, you know it can be tough finding the perfect match. It might be your fault, but one little change could send you down the aisle. The problem? You may be dating out of your league. A new study found that users who messaged people out of their league typically waited a lot longer to get a reply back or even get a reply at all. "A lot of people try to date out of their league, and they use that terminology," says Chief love officer Michelle Frankel, with New York City Matchmaking. "But it may not result in the end relationship they are looking for; but it might not even be what they perceive it to be." According to Urban Dictionary, dating out of your league simply means you’ve got no shot. However, Frankel says that’s not true all the time. For example, look at Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel, back in the 1980's.Frankel says dating up like Billy Joel did can work, but it can’t be based on looks alone. “Look what he brought to the table," explains Frankel. "Clearly he was financially set at the time and also he had so much unique talent." If you date out of your league simply to find someone better looking than you, Frankel says good luck finding a match. "That's not a recipe for a lasting relationship in and of itself. There has to be more compatibility, shared values, same interests and both going in the same direction." Whether you are dating online or in person, Frankel says to stop trying to find your Disney movie moment. "You are never going to find perfection; it doesn't exist," Frankel says. 1707
In a scene reminiscent to what played out in Minneapolis on Memorial Day, Oklahoma City Police released video of a May 2019 incident of a man dying while in police custody.Body worn camera video was released to the public this week. The video shows as officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, Derrick Scott told officers multiple times “I can’t breathe,” a line that George Floyd used moments before he died in Minneapolis. One of the officers responded to Scott, “I don’t care.”The video shows officers struggling to place Scott in handcuffs.Unlike in the Floyd incident, the only video available from last May’s incident was from body camera footage. The May 2019 incident began on a call of a black man carrying a gun. After police arrived, officers talked to Scott. The body cam footage then showed officers chasing a fleeing Scott.Officers caught up to him and tackled Scott. Two officers straddled Scott until a third officer arrived and told Scott to stop resisting. It took all three officers to bring Scott into custody. An officer continued to hold a knee against Scott’s leg.Scott then didn’t say anything for four minutes, which prompted officers to call for EMTs. Scott died an hour later. An official autopsy stated that Scott had a collapsed lung at the time of his death, but did not give the manner for his death. The officers were cleared of wrongdoing. 1380

In August, KNXV television station in Arizona caught up with then-Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder J.D. Martinez just a few weeks after he was traded to the team to get an idea of what it's like to be sent from one city to another in the middle of the season."How am I gonna get my clothes over here? How am I gonna get all my stuff?" Martinez remembered thinking shortly after being traded from Detroit, adding he had to wait until the D-backs had an off day to head back to Detroit to gather his belongings.Well, Shaquille O'Neal decided to bypass all that craziness when he was traded from the Miami Heat to the Phoenix Suns in the middle of the 2007-08 season. Instead, he took a trip to a Valley Walmart and loaded up on everything he needed to furnish his new apartment."I spent about ,000 at Walmart. In one night," Shaq said during an interview on "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" on HBO. "I spent so much, American Express thought my credit card was stolen. True story."Shaq, who said he's "very impatient," said he simply didn't want to wait to furnish his new place."They’ve already got the apartment set up, but I ain’t got nothing. I ain’t got no towels. I ain’t got no pots and pans. I ain’t got no TVs," he said. Shaq said he purchased clothes -- pants, socks, tank tops and underwear -- along with electronics such as computers, TVs and printers in a single Walmart shopping spree. But when he reached the checkout aisle, his credit card was declined."The security team from American Express called me and said, 'Hey, man. Somebody stole your credit card and went to Walmart.' I said, 'No, sir, that's me,'" he said."So they turned it back on, I got a couple trucks, and bam."Shaq's stay in the Valley was brief, as he was traded to Cleveland after the 2008-09 season. No word on whether he went on a similar shopping spree there."I'm Walmart's biggest customer. They know it," he said. "All day, every day." 1963
In 1943, George H.W. Bush was more than 40 years away from becoming the 41st President of the United States. He was 19 and serving in the Navy during World War II. He was also deeply in love with his fiancee, Ms. Barbara Pierce, who would go on to be a beloved First Lady.A handwritten letter from Bush to his bride-to-be is housed at the George H.W. Bush Library and Museum in College Station, Texas, and it offers an intimate glimpse into the love story of a future presidential couple. The text of the letter is below. My darling Bar,This should be a very easy letter to write — words should come easily and in short it should be simple for me to tell you how desperately happy I was to open the paper and see the announcement of our engagement, but somehow I can't possibly say all in a letter I should like to.I love you, precious, with all my heart and to know that you love me means my life. How often I have thought about the immeasurable joy that will be ours some day. How lucky our children will be to have a mother like you —As the days go by the time of our departure draws nearer. For a long time I had anxiously looked forward to the day when we would go aboard and set to sea. It seemed that obtaining that goal would be all I could desire for some time, but, Bar, you have changed all that. I cannot say that I do not want to go — for that would be a lie. We have been working for a long time with a single purpose in mind, to be so equipped that we could meet and defeat our enemy. I do want to go because it is my part, but now leaving presents itself not as an adventure but as a job which I hope will be over before long. Even now, with a good while between us and the sea, I am thinking of getting back. This may sound melodramatic, but if it does it is only my inadequacy to say what I mean. Bar, you have made my life full of everything I could ever dream of — my complete happiness should be a token of my love for you.Wednesday is definitely the commissioning and I do hope you'll be there. I'll call Mum tomorrow about my plan. A lot of fellows put down their parents or wives and they aren't going so you could pass as a Mrs. — Just say you lost the invite and give your name. They'll check the list and you'll be in. How proud I'll be if you can come.I'll tell you all about the latest flying developments later. We have so much to do and so little time to do it in. It is frightening at times. The seriousness of this thing is beginning to strike home. I have been made asst. gunnery officer and when Lt. Houle leaves I will be gunnery officer. I'm afraid I know very little about it but I am excited at having such a job. I'll tell you all about this later too.The wind of late has been blowing like mad and our flying has been cut to a minimum. My plane, #2 now, is up at Quonset, having a camera installed. It is Bar #2 but purely in spirit since the Atlantic fleet won't let us have names on our planes.Goodnite, my beautiful. Everytime I say beautiful you about kill me but you'll have to accept it —I hope I get Thursday off — there's still a chance. All my love darling —Poppypublic fiancé as of 12/12/43Barbara Bush passed away this week at the age of 92 after an undisclosed illness. She is one of two women in American history to have had both a husband and a son elected President (Abigail Adams is the other). She and her husband met in 1941 at a school dance, when she was just 16."I married the first man I ever kissed," she would often say. "When I tell this to my children, they just about throw up."And they were married longer than any other presidential couple. She leaves behind a legacy of public service, in particular a conviction for literacy and education. Of her cause she once said, "I chose literacy because I honestly believe that if more people could read, write, and comprehend, we would be that much closer to solving so many of the problems that plague our nation and our society."And perhaps, there would be more love letters too. 3999
IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Wednesday, Imperial Beach city leaders unanimously approved a one-cent sale tax measure for the November ballot. The city says, if enacted, the measure would, "enable the City to prepare for medical or catastrophic emergencies including preparing local first responder services, updating emergency communication systems and maintaining rapid 911 emergency response capacity."The potential one-cent sales tax increase would also support restoring the city's long-term emergency funding that is being used to address the coronavirus pandemic."Even through these challenging times, the City must continue to address challenges with clean, safe neighborhoods and addressing homelessness to maintain Imperial Beach as a quality community to live, work and raise a family for all residents," said Assistant City Manager, Erika Cortez-Martinez.The measure includes accountability and transparency requirements, including public disclosure of spending and independent audits, the city says.If approved it would go into effect in the spring of 2021. 1079
