LA MESA, Calif. (CNS) - Authorities Monday reached out to the public for help in identifying a group of people suspected of breaking into and looting a La Mesa jewelry store following a protest against police brutality nearly four months ago.Surveillance cameras captured photos and video of at least six people suspected of breaking into Pierre's Jewelers, 8324 La Mesa Blvd., on the night of May 30, according to La Mesa police.Many of the individuals were wearing face coverings, but one woman had a tattoo on her left forearm and one man had tattoos on his right forearm, left forearm and right elbow.Anyone with information on the identity of the individuals in the photos is asked to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-7532 or lamesatips@cityoflamesa.us.Tipsters can remain anonymous and may also contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Over 50 crimes, including arson, vandalism, burglary and theft, were committed in La Mesa on May 30 and May 31, LMPD Lt. Greg Runge said.On May 30, a crowd gathered in front of the La Mesa Police Department at 2:30 p.m. to protest the May 27 arrest of a man at the Grossmont Transit Center, as well as the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.A portion of the group then marched onto Interstate 8 at Baltimore Drive, blocking traffic in both directions for hours.Around 6 p.m., protesters remaining in front of the La Mesa Police Department threw rocks and water bottles at an armored police car nearby, and police deployed tear gas, pepper balls and bean bag rounds in an attempt to disperse the crowd.Later in the evening, the La Mesa Springs Vons market -- closed at 8 p.m. -- was looted. Nearby businesses were looted as well, including the Grossmont Center Target as well as several businesses in the La Mesa Springs Shopping Center.After 11 p.m., two banks -- a Chase branch and a Union Bank branch -- were engulfed in flames on Spring Street and both burned to the ground.As of Monday, 25 people have either been arrested or "had charges sought against them for various crimes," Runge said. LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former magazine model, her boyfriend and their former roommate are headed toward trial in the killing of a 71-year-old California psychiatrist whose body was found outside Las Vegas, a defense attorney said Friday.Kelsey Nichole Turner's lawyer, Brian Smith, said his client, Jon Logan Kennison, and Diana Nicole Pena are still due Monday before a Las Vegas judge on murder and conspiracy charges in the slaying of Thomas Kirk Burchard.However, Smith said their preliminary hearing will be called off after a grand jury handed up an indictment moving the case to Nevada state court for trial.Burchard lived in Salinas, California. Police say he had an intimate relationship with Turner and paid rent on a Las Vegas home where Turner, Kennison and Pena lived.Turner, Kennison and Pena are accused of killing Burchard and leaving his bludgeoned corpse in Turner's Mercedes Benz where it was found March 7 on a desert road between Las Vegas and Lake Mead.Turner, 26, modeled for Playboy Italia and Maxim magazines. (KGTV) — A La Mesa home that was being fumigated for termites was burglarized Wednesday evening, according to the family."It's a shame," longtime neighborhood gardener Kit Brett said, lamenting with a neighbor about the burglary so soon after Christmas."It's my biggest fear, I always keep everything locked when I'm in the house," Diane Helmer said. Her son and daughter-in-law live a few houses down from the family who was burglarized.What the criminal didn't realize was there were two signs indicating a home security system, watching their every move. Neighbor Katy Holm told 10News the homeowners' phone alerted them of movement inside the home, around 7:40 p.m. They called police who locked down the neighborhood."My neighbors are very private people to start with, a wonderful family with three children," Holm said.Every neighbor who spoke with 10News was shocked anyone would risk their life to steal."They don't realize your skin's your biggest organ and everything, that, that chemical sucks right into your skin," Brett said."Makes me wonder if it's somebody who has knowledge of how to protect themselves against those sorts of chemicals and maybe they're targeting tented homes, and it's something they should be aware of," Holm said.10News reported on two similar stories in 2018, one in Oceanside and the other in Skyline. After a spike in tented home break-ins in Los Angeles, police told homeowners to remove valuables and put dowels in windows so they can only open a few inches. LANCASTER, Calif. – A man has been arrested for the murders of his 12-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter in Lancaster, California, which is north of Los Angeles.The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that fire personnel located the victims when they were called to the family's home to investigate a possible gas leak Friday morning.Detectives say the children both appeared to have suffered from lacerations and stab wounds.The mayor of Lancaster, Rex Parris, confirmed to KABC and the L.A. Times that the children were both found decapitated. He told the newspaper that “it was pretty brutal.”Officials tell the L.A. Times that the victims were found in separate bedrooms in the home and it’s unclear how long they had been dead.At the home, the sheriff’s department says there were also two adults and two other children who were questioned by homicide investigators. The L.A. Times identified the two adults as the victims’ parents.The children's father, Maurice Taylor Sr., was later arrested on murder charges and booked into jail, where he’s being held with a million bail.The L.A. Times reports the suspect is a personal trainer who acquaintances described as being “mellow” and “reliable.”Detectives say they’re continuing to investigate the murders.
