(KGTV) - San Diegans looking to find a new job - or get a better one - will soon have a new resource to help them get there. Goodwill Industries San Diego is finishing a more than 4,000 square-foot job training center in San Ysidro, which it plans to open Sept. 13. The 0,000 facility is replacing the organization's rack store at 630 Front St. in San Ysidro, which moved to a new location. The center will offer free career counseling, meeting spaces for interviews, open computers, and even job fairs - all free to San Diegans looking for work, or a bigger paycheck. RELATED: California is the sixth-worst state for retirement."So even if they get a job, that job that just puts food on the table, we want them to continue to come to us so that we can support them, so they can get that better job," said Toni Giffin, CEO of Goodwill Industries of San Diego County. The state reports that there are still about 58,000 San Diegans who are unemployed, even with the jobless rate near a record low of 3.7 percent. That number does not include San Diegans who would like more hours, or whose jobs don't pay enough to make ends meet. Ken Joy, 75, is currently living with his sister in La Mesa. Social Security is his only income. He would like to move out, but first, he needs a job. That Chula Vista location, on Broadway, will close when the new center in San Ysidro opens.Goodwill also offers training in the following areas: 1910
(KGTV) — It took some months after opening for Disneyland to finally make good on its promise of living out your Star Wars dreams, but boy did it deliver."Rise of the Resistance" opens on Friday, Jan. 17 at the park's "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" land with one mission: Put riders in the middle of a galaxy far, far away. While not without a few slower moments, the attraction brings a new standard to theme park rides. While Galaxy's Edge has provided a decent amount of "Star Wars" enjoyment, there has been something missing. ROTR rises above expectations, using four ride systems to deliver that feeling fans have craved since the park's "Star Wars" expansion opened last summer. [Spoilers ahead]It's thanks to the cast members throughout the ride (from the First Order officers shooing "sympathizers" to Resistance fighters saving the day) and well-timed theatrical moments that "Rise of the Resistance" excels.(The mystery technology throughout the ride gives plenty of "oohs" and "aahhs" as well.)Riders may get restless at times they are waiting to enter their transports, but Disney's Imagineers have designed a detail-rich environment for them to take in until the action begins.RELATED: California Adventure's 'Avengers Campus' set for summer 2020 openingThe ride opens with Resistance recruits receiving their orders from BB-8 and Rey in a briefing room, before they're hurled into space on a transport ship on a secret mission with ace X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron by their side. But, as with all Star Wars films, the bad guys aren't too far behind. A calm transport ride turns bumpy after the First Order ambushes the space vessel and takes it — and its riders — hostage on a Star Destroyer. First Order cast members, with emotionless glares, order riders to wait in their cell where they'll be interrogated.Kylo Ren and General Hux stand tall above the cell issuing threats (definitely doesn't feel threatening, though), before the Resistance breaks in to free riders. That's when the fun begins, as riders travel on trackless cars through the Destroyer to escape and return to Batuu.RELATED: Disneyland tickets are on sale for as low as right nowDisney Imagineers are far less likely to divulge their magic tricks during a First Order interrogation, but the sight of blaster lasers, massive AT-ATs firing at riders, a lightsaber piercing through steel, and a Tower of Terror-style drop back home scream technological sophistication.Disneyland has set a new standard for a tent-pole attraction. "Rise of the Resistance" combines cast interactions, practical effects, and "wow" moments to create THE Star Wars experience park visitors have wanted. While not without room for improvement (Kylo's last stand was a bit flimsy), riders will be walking out humming John Williams scores and jumping back in line. 2822

A 10th child has died following an outbreak of adenovirus at a New Jersey rehabilitation facility, state health officials said.At least 27 children have been linked to the outbreak at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, the New Jersey Department of Health said."To date, the individuals associated with the outbreak became ill between Sept. 26 and Oct. 29," it said. "The affected children had severely compromised immune systems — including respiratory problems — before the outbreak began."The viruses are found on unclean surfaces and medical instruments. They may not be eliminated by common disinfectants, but they rarely cause severe illness in healthy people. 700
(KGTV) — Verizon will remove data restrictions to first responders fighting wildfires throughout California and supporting Hurricane Lane efforts, after limiting speeds to firefighters fighting the Mendocino Complex Fire. The cell carrier said it is working with first responders to implement changes to its service, a week after acknowledging it wrongly limited data speed to the Santa Clara County Fire Department during the Mendocino Complex Fire.Verizon said in a statement it would be releasing details of a new plan to first responders with no cap on data and priority access next week, at no extra cost.RELATED: Verizon slowed firefighters' internet during Mendocino Complex FireAs of Monday, the company had opened up data speeds to firefighters in California and first responders in Hawaii: 821
(KGTV) -- The controversial immigrant caravan is inching it's way closer to the San Diego border, with at least 132 people already in Tijuana. Many of the migrants plan to walk across the pedestrian bridge in San Ysidro and turn themselves in to the customs officers. The group of more than 600 has ridden trains and walked for miles to get to the United States - Mexico border. Enrique Morones and his team - known as Border Angels - are sending supplies to Tijuana. "The Border Angels have been very supportive, we've had people on the caravan, we have been collecting items for the caravan," he said. "These people that are coming on a caravan are escaping a situation in their country that they're seeking refuge from. Let's welcome that stranger. Give me your poor, your tired your huddled masses."Jorge Nieto, a journalist following the immigrants' journey, says they have been arriving in Tijuana in small groups - 50 to 100 at a time.Nieto was told that once the whole group is together, they'll cross all at once. The caravan hasn't been without controversy.President Trump tweeted this week, saying he instructed the secretary of homeland security to keep the large caravan out of the U.S., and asked Mexico to keep the immigrants from going through the Country. RELATED: Migrant caravan heads to US-Mexico border "They're trying to escape something. Either hunger or violence or some sort of a war that's going on," Nieto said. "One of the reasons that they go in caravans is there's a power in groups. If you go as a group, then you're more secure."San Diegans For Secure Borders, a local group against the caravan, plans to stop the caravan when they arrive. In a Facebook group they created, they say that the "mass foreign invasion" must be stopped. In 2014, the same group went to Murrietta to stop buses of immigrant detainees from Texas. We reached out to them several times to find out what they plan on doing this week but did not get a response. 2031
