SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman was accused of leaving her dog behind in a hot car in a Mission Valley parking lot while she was shopped Tuesday.The confrontation occurred at Fenton Marketplace in Mission Valley after a man noticed a dog locked in a car and called San Diego County Animal Control. Officers arrived two hours later and measured the temperature of the car, which was reportedly between 80 - 90 degrees.The windows of the vehicle had also been cracked a couple of inches.RELATED: How to save a dog from a hot car (if you're a Californian)When the vehicle's owner returned, the man who reported the situation confronted her. The woman told him she was from Oregon and it's common to leave dogs in the car.Her dog was reportedly fine and not under distress, despite spending two hours in the hot car.In California, it's illegal to leave a dog inside a hot car in dangerous conditions. The law was passed after several instances of dog deaths due to being left in cars on hot days. 1015

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An El Cajon mother is searching for clues after her teenage son was brutally beaten and mugged in the East Village.Two Tuesdays ago, Sarah Swift-Farrow got the call every mother dreads. Her 19-year-old son, Titan Mellor, was in the ER and hurt badly."My heart dropped ... just a hopeless feeling," said Swift-Farrow.She believes around 2 p.m., her son, a Grossmont College student, was headed to the Family Health Centers clinic in the East Village, applying for some sort of state assistance, when it happened. Swift-Farrow learned details from the paramedics' report."He was attacked from behind by a group of people, hit in the back of the head with a glass bottle. He fell to the ground, was repeatedly punched, and lost consciousness. Then he was kicked in the face for an unknown duration of time," said Swift-Farrow.Swift-Farrow says the attackers took his keys, phone, and wallet, charging thousands of dollars in purchases on his credit cards during the next few days. As for Mellor, he suffered a concussion and a host of severe injuries."Multiple fractures in his eye socket, his nose, above the mouth, behind his ear and in the back of his head," said Swift-Farrow.She says his road to recovery won't be an easy one. His memory of the attack remains hazy."He remembers a group of six to eight males yelling at him, and then getting hit from behind," said Swift-Farrow.Swift-Farrow is making a plea for tips to help police fill in the missing details."They need to be caught because my son deserves justice, and I don’t want this to happen to anyone else," said Swift-Farrow.She says the first charge on the stolen credit card was at the nearby MTS stop. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Sheriff's Department employee has been removed from duty after reportedly sharing a vulgar image.Although 10News hasn't seen the image, it was described as a vulgar image depicting George Floyd. The department says the image was shared electronically and was brought to the attention of leaders by a member of the department. The employee hasn't been identified."We were so disgusted that an employee may have shared such a vulgar image that we took immediate action," the department said in a statement to 10News.The department says the employee was removed from their official duties and had their peace officer authority removed."The Sheriff's Department does not tolerate any acts or actions by its employees that are a detriment to our core values. We also cannot comment on an active investigation because of Penal Code 832.7," the department added.An internal affairs investigation is underway, the department says. 962

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego tradition will return this holiday season, though not to the same stage we're used to seeing.The Old Globe's production of "Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" won't be taking the theater's stage this year, instead, coming to audiences on the radio and online. The free, audio-only production can be heard on 89.5 FM and can also be streamed on the KPBS website or mobile app, and on smart speakers on Nov. 26, Dec. 5, and Dec. 20 at 12 p.m.; and Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.Of course, fans of the show can expect their favorite songs, including "Santa for a Day," "You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," and "Welcome, Christmas (Fah Who Doraze)."And though live showings at the Old Globe are canceled until further notice due to the pandemic, another piece of holiday cheer will return outside of the theater. The 15th annual Globe Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place virtually on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. and can be viewed on the Globe's website or social media channels.
