(KGTV) - In a vigil of hope held Friday night, at least 60 people shared their homes that an El Cajon teen who is reported missing in Phoenix would soon be found. Nineteen-year-old Kiera Bergman grew up in El Cajon and went to Valhalla High School, her aunt, Mindy Tarantino told 10News. The teen moved to Phoenix earlier this year with her boyfriend. Bergman's roommate reported her missing Monday when she didn’t return home and had not shown up to work.“We were told she left her house without her purse, without her car, why would she do that,” Tarantino said. “This isn't in her character. She doesn't stop communicating with people.”Kiera’s mother and sister are in Phoenix waiting for any word from the police. Meantime, her family and friends in El Cajon lit candles and prayed for her safe return.“We haven’t slept in this whole week. It’s just horrible,” Tarantino told the crowd, reminding them to stay optimistic. “Somebody is going to crack and lead us to her.” 1014

Dick's Sporting Goods, the nation's largest sporting goods retailer, will stop selling assault-style weapons like the one used in the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting.The company said it will also raise the minimum age for all gun sales to 21. Dick's will not sell high-capacity magazines that allow shooters to fire far more rounds than traditional weapons without reloading, as well as other accessories used with weapons similar to the AR-15.The Parkland shooter, Nikolas Cruz, bought a gun at Dick's. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The son of sex offender Matthew Hedge pleaded not guilty Thursday in El Cajon to child molestation charges. Shaun Crocker, 34, molested a 13-year-old girl at least six times, prosecutors allege. Crocker appeared before a judge at the El Cajon courthouse on charges of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14. He was ordered to be held on million bail and return to court Aug. 16 for a readiness hearing.Crocker's birth certificate shows he is the son of Matthew Hedge, a sex offender convicted in 1989 of molesting four children. (KGTV) - A husband pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to poison his wife with a heavy metal at their East County home, court officials said.Race Uto, 27, admitted to three counts of premeditated attempted murder in an El Cajon courtroom, according to San Diego County District Attorney's office spokesperson Tanya Sierra.Prosecutors said Uto gave his wife thallium, a metal found in rat poison and ant killers.RELATED: Warrant reveals troubled marriage in poisoning case10News obtained a search warrant indicating Brigida Uto became mysteriously ill in September 2017. She suffered weakness and hair loss, and was eventually near death, according to the warrant. Friends also indicated in a GoFundMe account she suffered nerve and organ damage.Investigators with the FBI, NCIS and San Diego County HazMat determined Brigida had been poisoned by someone with access to her food and drinks. The warrant also showed that Race had an affair while he was deployed in the Navy, and that the couple had gone through counseling.Race Uto was arrested in March 2018. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Mar. 14.Brigida Uto is a special education teacher in the Mountain Empire School District and the mother of a young boy, according to the GoFundMepage. Efforts to build a House of Mexico in Balboa Park's International Cottage area are nearing a critical deadline for fundraising. The group needs to raise 0,000 by the end of the month, or they may have to abandon their plans."We've been on this journey for a long time," says House of Mexico President Sonia Ruiz.The City Council approved plans in 2016 to add 9 "houses" to the cottage area, representing Mexico, the Philippines, Peru, Panama, Korea, India, Palestine, Turkey and Lebanon. They'll share five new buildings. But cost estimates for construction have risen considerably since the approval.Ruiz says it looks like each House will need to pay about a half million dollars for their share of construction."We got the permits back in November," she says. "If we don't start construction within 180 days, we lose the permit."Ruiz adds that applying for a new construction permit would be time consuming and expensive.The House of Mexico was one of the original members of Balboa Park's House of Nations in 1935. But they left the group in 1941. Aside from one year, they didn't re-join until 2004.Since then, the House of Mexico has operated as a non-profit group. They've held numerous events at Balboa Park to showcase Mexican culture. But a physical building would help them expand their mission."We could offer Spanish classes, cooking classes, dance classes," Ruiz says. "We want to have rotating art and culture exhibits in the house."People around Balboa Park were surprised to learn that San Diego's closest international neighbor didn't have its own building among the houses."It's pretty astonishing," says Mark Levy, who walks through the park every day. We are neighbors; they should be here."The House of Mexico is trying to raise the money by the end of May. They have a button on their website for donations, and they're also selling bracelets that say "I Love Mexico" at events.
