SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- From termite infestations to leaky pipes and AC units, some students at San Diego State University say their on-campus housing complex is “abysmal” even though it costs hundreds of dollars more per month than newer apartments just steps away.Shortly after moving into Aztec Corner, sophomores Hanna Bengard and Kalie Slivkoff said they had issues with electricity, a leaky A/C unit and spiders. Better GPAs, closer to campus. I get that kind of stuff, but raising the prices by nearly half, I just don’t agree with that.”SDSU took over the complex this semester with a master lease. Last year, rents were 4, according to the Daily Aztec.RELATED: Residents against SDSU 'mega-dorm' in their community“They’re forcing people to live in these apartments and that’s given them the ability to drastically upcharge the price,” said another resident, Connor Dreher.A Change.org petition demanding refunds had more than 560 signatures as of Friday afternoon.“The rent rate is a reflection of the property manager's market rate, plus SDSU’s residential education cost, which is embedded within the rent rate,” said SDSU spokeswoman La Monica Everett-Haynes. “Prior to the master lease agreement, rent was paid in 12 monthly payments. Today, SDSU’s rent on a license agreement are on a 10 installment payment agreement to accommodate student financial aid scheduling.”Everett-Haynes said the university does not own the property or directly respond to maintenance requests, but SDSU does track the requests to ensure they’re handled promptly.RELATED: SDSU Christian sorority sisters speak out over plans to demolish their house“The offices of Housing Administration and Residential Education has been actively working with residents to ensure that issues are being properly reported so that they may be addressed,” she said in a statement.As of noon Friday, there were only two outstanding service requests in the 602-bed complex, she said.Students acknowledged most service requests are handled promptly. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Driving on roads in San Diego during the holiday season can be a headache, as residents and tourists alike deal with increased traffic caused by extra congestion. This year, during Thanksgiving week, the roads have been a little bit safer, according to statistics released by the California Highway Patrol. San Diego County DUI arrests and auto fatalities were both down from last year, for the time period between Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and Friday at 6:00 a.m. Going into the weekend there have been a total of 21 DUI arrests recorded in San Diego, a decrease from 27 arrests from 2017. RELATED: Check 10News?traffic updatesThe results are also reflected across the state, where the 294 DUI arrests are down from 386 a year ago. There have been no fatal car accidents in San Diego, compared to one at this time last year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Friday, a San Diego woman recounted how she was sexually abused by her priest at St. Jude when she was young, hoping it would encourage others to come forward.Walking up to the church to speak she said she felt a wave of emotions, "My chest was heavy, my stomach was sick. I was catching my breath." She told 10News her name is Cynthia Ann Doe, keeping her last name private, wearing a scarf over her head and dark sunglasses, concealing part of her identity for fear of retaliation. She said she could still see the rectory, where Monsignor Gregory Sheridan lived, next to the church. In it's place is a parking lot.She depicted what her life was like when she was just five-years-old, "I had no one to protect me, my mother and my father divorced when I was four, my brother died months before that." She said they lived inside a brightly painted yellow apartment building, sitting just across the street. Ann Doe said she clung to her faith and her family was honored when Monsignor Sheridan took favor in their company. Alone in his bedroom, her lawyer said he violated her with his fingers.She said at that age she couldn't process what happened, "that you are worthless dirty, a bad person, so bad that even God must not love you, because your priest hurt you and made you feel nasty.""I'm asking anyone male or female who may be struggling with what happened to them by Father Sheridan to come forward and be heard," she said.That call growing louder as more cases arise across the country. Pope Francis issued the first law for officials worldwide Thursday, requiring them to report abuse to their superiors.The local Catholic Church also proactive, publishing a list of priests with credible allegations against them.
