CRESSON, Texas -- One worker is unaccounted for and two others have been injured after an explosion at a chemical plant in Texas, according to ABC News.Investigators said Thursday that they believe the explosion was caused by a worker dragging his foot along the factory floor.A total of nine emergency-rescue and fire departments responded to the massive fire at Tri-Chem Industries plant, which is located about 50 miles southwest of Dallas.Crews were eventually evacuated from the vicinity due to the risk of another explosion and possible exposure to dangerous chemicals. 583

CORONADO, Calif., (KGTV) — Despite recent shark sighting, thousands of people headed to the beach for the pre-holiday weekend. But instead of sharks, dozens of people left the beach after being stung by stingrays.Beautiful Coronado is home to majestic creatures, including great white sharks. "We do think that the great white shark populations are increasing," Heidi Dewar, research biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center said. She believes the population increase is linked to the implementation of fishing regulations in the 1990s. "In 1994, California pushed all the net-based fisheries outside of state water, which is three nautical miles out. And what that did was that basically protected most of the nursery habitat of the juvenile sharks on the coast," Dewar said. "About the same time, the UN banned these high seas directed at fisheries, which were killing some adult white sharks."Last week, two juvenile white sharks were spotted about a half a mile offshore from the Coronado coast. There were no shark attacks like the one last year in Encinitas, where a 13-year-old boy was bitten in the shoulder while lobster spearfishing. Still, the city officials in Coronado notified beachgoers to be on the lookout. That did not stop 11-year-old Tobias Appel from diving in." We just came here to boogie board and have a bunch of fun," Tobias said. He and his family from Phoenix are vacationing in Coronado. So that's definitely a side of the ocean that people need to keep in mind when they go swimming or surfing."Biologists say remember, this summer when you are going to the beach, you are stepping into the animals' homes. City of San Diego workers on the taxpayer dime were doubling the hours worked on their timecards and getting paid for it anyway. The revelation is part of a damaging new audit set to be released Friday. "Quite frankly, we're appalled," Johnnie Perkins, a city deputy chief operating officer, said in a press conference called Thursday. The audit found the a unit of 17 workers in a unit of public utilities department were working an average 3.6 hours per day, but putting eight hours on their timecards - and supervisors were approving them. The unit is charged with replacing faulty cement water meter covers and water meter boxes at homes and business across the city of San Diego. "We need to make sure that we're changing what our expectations are not just for those that are on the front line repairing our lids and boxes," Perkins said, "but for our midlevel and senior managers, what do we expect in terms of how they are going to be evaluated or held accountable for their performance, or in this case, lack thereof?"The investigation comes just months after City Auditor Eduardo Luna's department found that the public utilities department sent erroneously high water bills to nearly 3,000 San Diego families. Perkins said reforms are currently being installed. The announcement came one day after city public utilities director Vic Bianes announced his retirement, effective Thursday. Matt Vespi, an assistant director in the finance department, takes over on an interim basis.The city plans to have a permanent replacement by the end of the year.   In a statement, Mayor Kevin Faulconer said the public utilities department needs to earn back the trust of its customers."The Mayor has called for sweeping reforms that include looking into every aspect of the department’s operations and changing how things are done to better serve the public," he said. In the case of the inflated timecards, Perkins declined to say how much was lost, what the workers earned, and exactly how long it was going on. Citigroup has terminated a manager following an investigation into his role operating a prominent website dedicated to QAnon conspiracy theory, according to Bloomberg.Jason Gelinas was placed on paid leave in mid-September after he was identified by Logically.ai as the operator of QMap.pub and it’s affiliated apps.“Mr. Gelinas is no longer employed by Citi,” the company said in a statement to Bloomberg. “Our code of conduct includes specific policies that employees are required to adhere to, and when breaches are identified, the firm takes action.”Gelinas was a manager in Citigroup;s technology department. The company says employees have to disclose outside business activity where they receive compensation.Gelinas was reportedly earning about ,000 a month from a crowdfunding site supporting the QAnon site he ran. He says the money helped cover the monthly operating costs.QMap once drew a reported 10 million visitors a month over the summer. Once Gelinas was identified, the site was taken down.QAnon began a few years ago as a single conspiracy theory.
