ATLANTA (AP) — The funeral for the Rev. C.T. Vivian, an early and key adviser to the Rev. Martin Luther King, is to be held Thursday. Because of the coronavirus outbreak, the service will be private and open only to family, according to a news release from the C.T. and Octavia Vivian Museum and Archives. It's scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, and will be streamed live online and broadcast by WSB-TV. Vivian died at home in Atlanta of natural causes at age 95 on Friday, the same day that fellow civil rights leader U.S. Rep. John Lewis died. 601

ATLANTIS, Fla. — A nurse at JFK Medical Center in Atlantic, Florida, gave a unique, inside look at the ups and downs that medical staff experienced this year helping save lives during the coronavirus pandemic.Traveling thousands of miles from Florida, John Paul Rosario proudly shared his vacation pictures from Egypt from the beginning of the year. "It was my girlfriend's birthday, 30th birthday, so we went there, but by the time we got back, everything was closed, and everything was in full swing," Rosario said.PHOTO GALLERY: Click here to look at more of JP's photosLittle did he know, the pictures capturing the next part of his life would be emotional. As national rates of hospitalizations, deaths and positive cases of the coronavirus spike, CDC data shows Americans of color who contract the virus are more likely to end up in the hospital. The hospitalization rate overall for Hispanic or Latino COVID-19 patients is about 4.2 times higher than white patients. For American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Black patients, they are roughly 4 times more likely to be hospitalized than white patients.Patients between the ages of 18-49 who are Hispanic, Latino, American Indian or Alaska native are 7 times more likely than white patients of the same age to be hospitalized. Black patients between 18-and-49 years old are nearly 5 times more likely than white patients of the same age to be hospitalized. The findings are part of the CDC’s weekly report on the coronavirus pandemic in America.Weekly rates of hospitalizations have been increasing this fall since late September. Overall, the increase has been driven by patients who are older than 50. However, the CDC finds that weekly hospitalization rates among children have been increased for the last two weeks. The nationwide percent of positivity rate for specimens tested for COVID-19 is at 10.5 percent for the week ending November 7. It was 8.4 percent the week before. As of November 17, the U.S. has reported more than 11.2 million cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic started in March. Nearly a million of those cases happened in just the last week or so, as the virus spreads rapidly across the country. There have been almost 248,000 deaths in this country from the coronavirus. 1600

Authorities have identified a Facebook post believed to have been made by the gunman who killed 12 people at a bar in California, a law enforcement official said.Ian Long, 28, burst into the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks and opened fire with a Glock .45-caliber handgun as patrons line-danced late Wednesday night.Long is believed to have posted the social media message around the time of the attack, according to the official, who is familiar with the investigation. In it, the writer says: "I hope people call me insane ... (laughing emojis).. wouldn't that just be a big ball of irony? Yeah ... I'm insane, but the only thing you people do after these shootings is 'hopes and prayers'.. or 'keep you in my thoughts'... every time... and wonder why these keep happening. " 796

As Thousand Oaks comes to grips with the dual traumas of a deadly mass shooting and destructive wildfires, Brian Hynes will have to decide whether to reopen the Southern California bar where 12 people were killed. The Borderline Bar & Grill, the kind of place that comforted and supported the community in times of distress, is closed after a Marine veteran opened fire there last week in what authorities called a "horrific scene" before he apparently took his own life. Will the bar reopen? Hynes, the establishment's owner, said he knows how he'll come to a decision."With what Borderline is to ... my community, I don't know if (reopening) is going to feel right. But once I stand inside that building, it's going to be like going to my childhood home, and I'll know. I'll know then," he told CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Monday afternoon."There's no way I'm not going to reopen out of fear or anything like that. If it works, we will definitely reopen, but right now ... with the fires going on in our same community ... I'm trying to get people back in their home beds, with their pets and their families." 1117
