HANOI, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Wednesday urged East Asia Summit (EAS) to continue to serve as a platform for macro-level dialogue in the region.EAS, as a leaders-led forum, could be a forward-looking platform for countries in the region to explore ways to push for strong, continued and coordinated growth in the region, said Yang at the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Informal Consultations.The consultations drew foreign ministers from ten ASEAN ( Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member states, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia, and New Zealand.Participants pose for group photos during the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers s'Informal Consultations in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, July 21, 2010 0EAS has served as a dialogue platform among different countries in the region on major issues in the past year, including the effect of the international financial crisis, said Yang.Yang said the world economy is recovering, however, the momentum needs to be further sustained. In the coming five years, China will provide 400 more government scholarship each year to developing countries in the EAS framework.Yang also illustrated China's position on region architecture development at the meeting.Yang said the development of regional architecture is conducive to the peace, development, cooperation and prosperity of East Asia. Yang reaffirmed that ASEAN should maintain centrality in regional framework.ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

NEW YORK, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill to recognise Nanjing City of China as a "Model for International Cooperation" in order to award the city's active involvement in cooperation with the United States in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, and this was the first Chinese city to win such an award, Li Jiansheng, executive chairman of the U.S.-China Partnership Committee, told Xinhua on Thursday.The House passed the bill, tabled by Representative John Tierney of Massachusetts, on Tuesday night, Li said, adding that this will pave the way for further cooperation between China and the United States in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, which are very conducive to build a stronger China in the future."I rise today to speak about a model for international cooperation that is said to hold promise and future opportunities for the United States," Tierney said when he was taking the floor at the House. PARIS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Legislative bodies of China and France launched their regular parliamentary exchange mechanism on Thursday, vowing to further push forward the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), and Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, jointly declared the beginning of the first meeting of Sino-French Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.Wu said the launch of the high-level meeting between the two legislative bodies signals the Sino-French parliamentary exchanges were promoted to a new stage.Accoyer said the regular parliamentary exchange mechanism could serve as an important platform for both nations to exchange views on mutual concerns and promote bilateral cooperation in politics, technology, new energy and environmental protection.Ahead of the meeting, Wu and Accoyer held talks on bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation.Accoyer said France attached great importance to Wu's visit as Wu is the first Chinese top legislator that visited France in 13 years.France regards China as a strategic partner, expecting to expand all-round strategic cooperation with China, boost coordination on international issues, through joint efforts against global financial crisis, climate change and other challenges, he said.Wu said his ongoing visit to France is aimed to build a closer relation between the Chinese NPC and the French National Assembly.
