SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A political kingmaker is using his fortune to shake up the San Diego race for District Attorney. The first television ads are hitting airwaves now, little more than a month before the election. The element of surprise surrounds the tone of an ad paid for by billionaire George Soros. He’s known for backing progressive candidates and shaking up elections, usually with controversial ads.The ad lays out Geneviéve Jones Wright’s qualifications to be San Diego County’s next District Attorney. It does not attack her opponent Summer Stephan, which is what most politicos expected.Jones Wright told 10News she had not seen the ad.Stephan’s campaign manager said he’s surprised the ad is more of an introduction than an attack. Jason Roe also said there is no doubt in his mind the gloves will come off, based on what he called Soros’ pattern of negative and dishonest ads.Jones Wright filed a complaint with the attorney general claiming Stephan was basically campaigning on the job and using photo ops with law enforcement in her campaign materials.Stephan’s campaign manager called it a distraction. 1128

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized Saturday night after being stabbed several times during a confrontation in Mission Beach, police said. The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the 900 block of West Mission Bay, said Ofc. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Hillcrest woman says the sounds that wake her up every day also make her dread going into her own home. After retiring, Mary Alsop moved from New Jersey two years ago and bought a condo on Centre Street."I was going to read all these books I said I was going to read," said Alsop. But her retirement dream has been interrupted by a constant stream of announcements from the Hillcrest branch of the DMV, starting around 8 in the morning and ending sometime past 6 at night.  A woman's voice can be heard rattling off ticket numbers and the windows that customers should report to."It's endless, repetitive and numbing," said Alsop. In late February, several loudspeakers were installed outside the DMV building. Between her condo and the DMV office are trees, a row of condos and apartments, along with four lanes of traffic and a large median.  Yet, when 10News was in her condo, those sounds could clearly be heard in her bedroom. The joy of reading is now a chore."It intrudes on your thinking and concentration," said Alsop.Shutting the windows reduces some of the noise, but makes it stuffy inside.Alsop isn't alone.  On the app Nextdoor, neighbors have been voicing their frustration for months.  Alsop says she and others have complained in person and online.  She says a few times, the volume has been turned down, only to go back up days later."I"m tremendously stressed out.  I just want my home back," said Alsop.A DMV spokesperson emailed 10news saying they've already agreed to turn down the volume.  10news responded, informing them the neighbors still feel the noise is too loud.  We are awaiting their response.  1698

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A priest in the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego was suspended Tuesday as church officials investigate allegations of sexual misconduct with a girl in the 1990s.Father Justin Langille, 65, initially faced the claim in the mid-1990s for an act which allegedly occurred with a female teenager earlier in the decade, according to a news release from the diocese. The case was examined in 1995 and 2002, but the diocese concluded that the allegation was unsubstantiated after Langille passed a polygraph test, church officials said.Last month, the case was brought before the diocese’s Independent Review Board as part of its process to review files about the sexual abuse of minors by clergy.“I felt strongly that even older, previously decided cases involving currently serving priests would benefit from being examined by the Independent Review Board,” said Bp. McElroy. “The voice of the laity needs to be heard on these matters and the independent board, with members that include attorneys, criminal investigators, psychologists and a clergy abuse victim, provides the diocese with exceptionally valuable guidance and expertise.”An investigator revealed significant new information that substantially undermined the credibility of Langille’s denials, the diocese said. Church officials did not provide details about the information. The diocese spokesperson did not have information about whether San Diego Police had been contacted. If the Independent Review Board determines the accusation is not credible, Langille may be returned to ministry, according to the diocese.Langille has not had a full-time assignment in the diocese since 2013, officials said. He has assisted on weekends at St. Therese and Ascension parishes in Del Cerro and Tierrasanta. The diocese said it encourages any victim of abuse by clergy to contact the Victim Assistance Office at 858-490-8353.The Diocese of San Diego serves 1.3 million Catholics in San Diego and Imperial Counties. 1999
