Jayaratne and the visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang stressed here on Friday to enhance the two friendly nations' cooperation in a wide range of areas including economy, education, culture and international affairs.Jayaratne told Zhang that Sri Lanka's economy has been greatly benefited by some mega-projects funded by China in recent years. He also expressed his gratitude to China's participation in Sri Lanka's economic rebuilding after the conclusion of a 30-year-old civil war.The Sri Lanka prime minister said Sri Lanka treasures the friendship between the two countries and unswervingly supports China on issues of her core interests.Zhang congratulated Sri Lanka for the end of the civil war, as well as the steady progress in rebuilding and social-economic development.He said China hopes to continue to increase friendly exchange between the two countries and enhance cooperation in the areas of infrastructure, industry, communication, energy, education, culture, tourism, among others.Zhang also proposed the two countries to enhance multilateral cooperation in the international arena to protect the just rights and interests of the developing nations.They also witnessed the signing of several economic and commercial cooperation agreements after their talks.Sri Lankan speaker Chamal Rajapaksa held talks with Zhang earlier on Friday.The Chinese vice premier arrived in Colombo Thursday night for a three-day visit to Sri Lanka, the second stop of his four-nation tour which will also take him to Greece and Austria. He visited Pakistan before his arrival to Colombo.

URUMQI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 380 Chinese nationals had returned home aboard Chinese chartered flights as of Tuesday night from southern Kyrgyzstan where ethnic clashes have left some 170 people dead.The Chinese government has sent four chartered planes to bring home nationals including business people and students in Kyrgyzstan. Three chartered planes dispatched on Monday and Tuesday have returned and the fourth one left at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, for Osh of Kyrgyzstan to fly home more Chinese nationals.More than 600 Chinese nationals living around Osh have been sent to the city's airport with help from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan. The Chinese embassy was working to transport them to safe areas, according to the Ministry.The Foreign Ministry sent two working teams to Osh and Urumqi to help with the evacuation of Chinese nationals. China Southern Airlines, which is entrusted to operate the flights, selected some of its best pilots and crew members for the evacuation mission."We have carefully prepared for the navigation and landing of the chartered planes," said Hou Junxue, captain of the first plane who has a flight experience of more than 30 years. The chartered planes also carried food, medicine, oxygen and medical equipment.The first two chartered planes returned to Urumqi at about 4:25 a.m. (Beijing time) and 5:18 a.m. (Beijing time) respectively on Tuesday, bringing home 195 nationals, mostly women and children.The third chartered plane landed at Urumqi airport at 10:50 p.m (Beijing time)Tuesday, carrying another 185 Chinese nationals."I did not expect that the government would send chartered planes to take us back home," Song Wuyi, a businessman selling stationery in Osh, told Xinhua upon arrival. "We feel at ease back in the motherland.""Many people shed happy tears when they see the plane arriving in Osh," said Song, whose store was forced to close after the unrest."Thank the government for taking us back and thank all of you," said Ahmet, a Uygur man in his forties. "This is the first time I thank our motherland......and I will remember this experience forever.""Many of my Kyrgyz clients in Osh admire me being a Chinese," said Kamijiang, who does fodder business in Kyrgyzstan.

  

HONG KONG, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- A chartered plane, carrying the bodies of the eight victims, victims' relatives and survivors in the hostage crisis in Philippine capital Manila, arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport on Wednesday evening.Following the arrival, an around-90-minute condolence ceremony was held at the airport, with a senior Hong Kong official and the victims' relatives laying wreaths on the coffins.In a speech after the ceremony, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong government Henry Tang urged the Philippine government to provide a detailed account of the causes of death and injury.COMING HOMEThe chartered plane of Cathay Pacific flight number CX 2903, which carried the coffins bearing the bodies of the victims, victims' relatives, several survivors and their kins, arrived in Hong Kong at 7:50 p.m. local time (1150 GMT).The chartered flight took off around 6:19 p.m. local time in Manila after a brief farewell ceremony.The eight slain Hong Kongers and the survivors were among the 21 Hong Kong tourists who were caught in a 11-hour hostage crisis in Manila on Monday. It ended on Monday night with eight hostages killed and seven others injured, one of whom still in critical condition.Upon arrival, Henry Tang, along with President of Hong Kong's Legislative Council Jasper Tsang, Governor of the Non-official Members of Hong Kong's Executive Council Leung Chun-ying, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lu Xinhua, and deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong Li Gang, stepped onto the plane to receive them home.After that, a solemn and heart-stricken ceremony was staged at the airport, which was live broadcast by the city's main TV stations.Pulled by trailers, coffins of the eight dead Hong Kongers, batch by batch separated by family, passed and stopped before a crowd of officials and families amid mournful music.Tang and tearful family members of the eight victims laid wreaths on the coffins of the eight victims, before the bodies were sent to Kwai Chung Public Mortuary.Some of the injured were sent to local hospitals, where Hong Kong's Chief Executive Donald Tsang later visited them.

  

BEIJING, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese chartered planes carrying 195 Chinese nationals who were evacuated from Kyrgyzstan arrived at an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region early Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said.The Chinese government dispatched the two Boeing 737-700 passenger planes late Monday to bring back Chinese nationals living in southern Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic clashes has left more than 120 dead.The first plane landed at 4:25 a.m. (Beijing Time) and the second, 5:20 a.m.(Beijing Time), according to Chinese diplomats waiting at the airport.The government dispatched two working groups to Kyrgyzstan and Urumqi on Monday for the evacuation task.A chartered plane of China Southern Airlines gets ready to take off at the airport in Urumqi, northwest of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on June 14, 2010.
