One of the largest anti-smoking groups is now going after cigarette makers for their trash.The Truth Initiative released a new video in an effort to combat the littering of cigarette butts. It debuted nationally last week during the MTV Video Music Award.The organization is tying this latest campaign into their public petition to get more businesses and public places to go smoke-free.Cigarette butts are the most littered item on the planet, and it’s the most picked up item from beaches all over the world.They contain hundreds of chemicals that show up in wildlife and waterways. The butts are made with a type of plastic that can take a decade or more to decompose.Cigarette makers have tried cleaning up their act over the years, but so far, nothing has really made a dent.There is a startup company that claims to have a biodegradable cigarette filter, which breaks down in a matter of days. The company says they are in talks with cigarette makers and are currently looking for a partner to start manufacturing the green filters. 1046

Olive Garden is bringing back its unlimited "Pasta Pass" promotion, which allows passholders eight weeks of unlimited pasta bowls.The restaurant plans to sell 22,000 passes at 0 each. The passes will go on sale Thursday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. ET and will be on sale for 30 minutes.They can be bought at PastaPass.com.Last year, the 21,000 passes that were up for grabs sold out in seconds.New this year is the "Pasta Passport to Italy," which includes an all-expenses paid trip for two to Italy.The 50 available "passports" will go on sale at the same time as the traditional passes. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) -- It's a 3,100-mile bike ride that starts from the Oceanside Pier Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Buzz Ponce, 69, will be riding his bike coast to coast from Oceanside to St. Augustine, Florida.  He is doing it to raise money for the Warrior's Heart Foundation. The foundation helps active military members, veterans and first responders dealing PTSD, alcohol abuse and drug addiction. Buzz says he started planning the bike ride two years ago. At first, he says it was all about seeing if he could do it, but then realized it would be better if he could use it to help others. "It really flashed on me that I should do something other than just about me. And that’s when I came across the idea of trying to raise money for a cause," Ponce said. The organization has a treatment center in San Antonio.  Ponce says his goal is to raise ,000 to hopefully start a scholarship for people that need to travel to the center.People can donate Buzz's cause here. If all goes as scheduled, Buzz will be in St. Augustine on July 1.  1091

On Tuesday, the Justice Department awarded more than million in grants to nonprofits who help survivors of human trafficking.Attorney General William Barr, Ivanka Trump, an adviser to President Donald Trump, and other officials announced that 73 organizations in 34 states will receive the grants, which will be provided by the Office for Victims of Crime, which is a component within the Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs.“Human trafficking is a barbaric criminal enterprise that subjects its victims to unspeakable cruelty and deprives them of the most basic of human needs, none more essential than a safe place to live,” Attorney General Barr said in the statement. “Throughout this Administration, the Department of Justice has fought aggressively to bring human traffickers to justice and to deliver critical aid to trafficking survivors. These new resources, announced today, expand on our efforts to offer those who have suffered the shelter and support they need to begin a new and better life.”Victims who receive the grants will be able to use the funds to receive counseling, find transitional or short-term housing assistance, as well as permanent housing, employment, and job training.“In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, combating human trafficking in the U.S. and abroad is critical work.
