SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman and a man were attacked by a man with a knife in the East Village area of San Diego and the suspect was at large this morning.The 32-year-old woman was sitting near a Jack in the Box restaurant in the 1100 block of C Street, near Park Boulevard, at 10:40 p.m. Friday when a man walked up to her and, without saying anything, cut the left side of her face with a knife and ran away northbound on Park Boulevard, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds.About a block away, the suspect approached a 62-year-old man and pressed a knife against the left side of the man's neck, then ran away in an unknown direction. The man suffered scratches to his neck, but did not go to a hospital, Heims said.A detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available. 892

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Cleveland National Forest officials Saturday announced elevated fire restrictions until Jan. 1, 2021, and ordered the closure of Three Sisters & Cedar Creek Fall Trails after a heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service.The trails will be closed until Sunday, officials said."These restrictions are put into effect to provide for emergency resource protection and public safety during hazardous fire conditions," a forest official said.The new restrictions include:No smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or within a developed recreation sites; No welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame;No target shooting, discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun;No building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or charcoal fire except within a developed recreation sites;No wood or charcoal fires are allowed except in identified developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas within designated fire rings.The Cleveland National Forest encompasses 460,000 acres and is the southernmost U.S. National Forest in California. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man climbed through a window of a Pacific Beach home Monday morning and attacked a woman in her bedroom before fleeing, police said.Dispatchers received a call around 5:15 a.m. from the victim, who reported that she found a man in her bedroom after he apparently entered through a window of her home on Grand Avenue near Olney Street, San Diego police public-affairs Officer Billy Hernandez said.The woman also reported that the man had attacked her, but she was able to get away and lock herself in her roommate's bedroom before calling police, Hernandez said.Officers arrived and searched the home, but found no one inside. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An ex-con dubbed the "Bad Grandpa" bandit because of the disguise he wore while robbing four banks in San Diego is scheduled to be sentenced today at the downtown courthouse.James Saputo, 51, pleaded guilty in June to robbery, attempted robbery and other charges. He faces more than 130 years to life in prison.Saputo was arrested twice in 2016 on drug charges and was out of custody on bail when he committed the bank robberies in San Diego between Feb. 12 and March 30 last year, said Deputy District Attorney Lucy Yturralde.The defendant is also accused of robbing seven banks in Riverside and Orange counties, the prosecutor said.Authorities nicknamed Saputo the "Bad Grandpa" bandit because of the elderly disguise he wore, which included a wig, glasses and a cane.Saputo's criminal record dates back to 1986. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Lyft opened a 35,000-square-foot "Driver Center" Tuesday in a former Toys "R" Us store in Bay Park to provide a one-stop location for its drivers to go for vehicle repairs, maintenance and other support services."We're proud to open one of Lyft's first Driver Centers in San Diego to further meet our drivers' needs directly," said Lyft Southern California General Manager Hao Meng. "We know that maintaining a vehicle can add up and our goal is to service drivers' vehicles in a timely and affordable way so they can get back on the road."The facility at 1240 W.
