San Diegans will soon have a new, and much more convenient way, to sell their homes.With a few taps on their computers or phones, they could get an all-cash offer from real-estate tracker Zillow for their property.The program, called Zillow Offers, adds speed, convenience and certainty to a process that often requires patience, home staging, visits from complete strangers, and frustration over transactions falling through."What we're trying to do is help homeowners solve one of the biggest problems they have," said Jeremy Wacksman, President of Zillow. "If you're selling and buying at the same time, trying to get all that done and project managing that even with the help of a great agent is hard."Zillow plans to launch the program in San Diego in early 2020. Homeowners would answer a few questions about their property online, getting an initial offer. If interested, they can arrange for an in-home inspection. A day or two after that, they'll get a formal cash offer they can consider. But that certainty comes at a price. Zillow makes its offer based on a variety of factors, including how long they believe they will have to hold the property and what they can sell it for. The company also deducts the costs of any repairs it deems necessary, with no room for negotiation. Typically, their offer comes with a 7 percent fee, which is 1 to 2 percent more than the average commission.Mark Goldman, a loan officer for C-2 Financial, said Zillow's offer likely comes with a cost. "For somebody who needs to do a fast transaction, it might be a suitable option, but you're not going to get top dollar for your house if you're going to do that," he said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries he sustained in a stabbing attack in the Egger Highlands area.The victim and a friend were in the 1500 block of Thermal Avenue at 10:30 p.m. Friday when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up next to them and two suspects got out of the back and began fighting with the victim, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The suspects threw a bottle at the victim and stabbed him in the hip, then jumped back in the vehicle, which was last seen southbound on Thermal Avenue, Heims said.The boy was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Heims said.A detailed description of the suspects was not available. 737

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A former executive for an Orange County genetics company pleaded guilty today to a federal conspiracy charge for paying kickbacks to physicians.Donald Joseph Matthews, 50, formerly the vice president of market development for Proove Biosciences, admitted in San Diego federal court to paying doctors at least .5 million to order the company's DNA tests for their patients, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.In total, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Proove billed around million to the Medicare program for the tests -- which the company alleged could determine a patient's risk of drug addiction -- and received around million in reimbursements.Prosecutors said the company claimed the payments were compensation for participation in a clinical research program, but the money was actually "directly tied to the volume of tests that a doctor ordered and whether a doctor continued to order more tests from Proove over time.''In his plea agreement, Matthews admitted that without the financial compensation, ``most doctors were not interested in ordering Proove's tests for their patients.''Doctors who complained about not being paid were told to order more tests, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.The company's Irvine headquarters was raided by federal authorities in 2017.``Our nation's healthcare system cannot tolerate kickbacks to physicians while criminals line their pockets with taxpayer-funded healthcare dollars, particularly in light of our nation's current struggles with the COVID- 19 pandemic,'' said Acting Special Agent in Charge Omer Meisel of the FBI's San Diego Division.Matthews is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 26.
