(KGTV) - An employee at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Parish in Fallbrook has been suspended after allegations of sexually inappropriate dating app chats were revealed in a video released by a vigilante group that conducts stings to catch suspected predators. 10News is not revealing the name of the employee because he has not been charged with a crime.A spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego confirmed the employee's suspension, telling 10News the church pastor called the San Diego County Sheriff's Department to report the employee after seeing the video posted on social media Saturday morning.The video was captured Nov. 21 by a group calling itself the "CC Unit" -- "CC" stands for "Creep Catching." The group has posted more than 60 videos over the past year, including one that led to the court martial of a Camp Pendleton Marine.In an interview with 10News, the group's leader, who asked to be identified as "Ghost," said they create profiles on dating sites. When someone reaches out, the CC Unit decoy claims to be a minor. In this particular case, Ghost claimed to be 14. Ghost said the conversation turned sexual, with the employee asking for nude pictures and eventually a meet-up. When he arrived for the meeting at a grocery store, instead of a 14-year-old boy, he was confronted by several men who were recording on their phones. The video stretches for several minutes as the employee tries to evade the CC Unit. "He was denying we had his pictures, we had his chat logs," Ghost said. "I was like 'OK, if you're so afraid, if you don't know what's going on, why don't you call the police because that's what any normal human being would do?'"Ghost admits that law enforcement does not approve of his actions. Criminal defense attorney Guadalupe Valencia told 10News that vigilante groups make the job of law enforcement harder and can jeopardize criminal investigations and prosecutions. "They can cause this person to maybe go free of prosecution because they mishandled the situation. That's a really big danger," said Valencia. Valencia said the CC Unit members could be opening up themselves to criminal charges or civil liability.Despite the criticism, Ghost said he stands by his actions. "They say it makes it harder for them, but I haven't seen them do as much work as I have done over the past year. So back then, we could get traveling nurses, we could get registry nurses, we could hire more nurses locally," Van Gorder said. "Today, this is a national situation and we cannot recruit travelers, we cannot recruit registry nurses, and unfortunately, a number of our healthcare providers are also getting sick."Van Gorder said the county has 24 staffed ICU beds left, out of about 670 available. He added that as hospitals get full and resources are strained, the type of care for anyone needing hospital care will change to crisis care.The top two floors of the Escondido hospital have been set up to serve as an FMS site. The site includes 202 beds that can be used for patients that don't require ICU care. The site could take in patients from other county hospitals that become overwhelmed, Dr. Omar Khawaja, the Chief Medical Officer for Palomar Health, told ABC 10News a few weeks ago."It could be beds that we would offload some of the less sick patients from other systems into there so they can handle the sicker patients; we don’t have a solid plan for it yet," he said.California's cumulative ICU bed capacity hit 1.1% on Wednesday, with the Southern California region at 0%. Three other regions were also under the state's regional stay-at-home orders activated after a region dips under 15% ICU capacity.San Diego County reported 348 coronavirus ICU cases on Wednesday and an additional 2,598 COVID-19 cases.Van Gorder said the county and hospitals project that hospitalizations will continue to grow and peak on Jan. 10, 2021, with about 1,827 patients, and ICU cases will peak on Jan. 11, with about 483 patients."Today, the governor announced the federal medical station at Palomar Medical Center is going to be activated. (KGTV) - A driver under the influence of a drug struck and injured a Caltrans worker on Interstate 15 in Escondido Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said.A Nissan Sentra driven by a 26-year-old man was headed south on the freeway south of 9th Ave. about 10 a.m. and struck the Caltrans-owned Dodge Ram truck which was stopped in the center divider near the HOV lane. Officers said the Nissan’s driver allowed his car to drift into the center divider.The Caltrans worker had moderate injuries. The Nissan’s driver complained of pain but refused treatment at the scene. One of his male passengers suffered major injuries; other had moderate injuries.CHP officers evaluated the Nissan driver and arrested him at the scene on suspicion of DUI. 776
