CLEWISTON, Fla. -- An overturned sugarcane truck has caused the closure of southbound lanes of U.S. 27 near Clewiston Wednesday.Florida Highway Patrol reports that the truck overturned Wednesday morning at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Evercane Road, just east of Clewiston.All southbound lanes were closed while crews clean up the approximately 25 tons of sugarcane that spilled onto the roadway.The roadway has since reopened.No injuries are reported. 468

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Columbus, Ohio, have released police body camera footage showing the moments early Tuesday when an officer on a nonemergency call fatally shot a Black man who was holding a cellphone as he emerged from a garage.Warning: the video in this story is graphic in nature and contains scenes that some may find disturbing.The video released Wednesday shows the Columbus officer approaching an open garage and the man walking along a car out of the garage.The man, identified as Andre' Maurice Hill, is holding up the phone in his left hand.The officer fires and Hill drops to the ground.The officer is then heard yelling at Hill to move his hands to the side and to roll over.The officer, Adam Coy, and a female officer responded to a call from the neighborhood that reported a vehicle running in the street on and off for an extended period of time, according to the Columbus Dispatch.The officers did not have their body cameras turned on at the time of the shooting, however the Columbus Dispatch reports the cameras have a 60-second "look back" feature that captures 60-seconds of video, no audio, before a camera is turned on. The video released Thursday indicates the officer turned on the body camera immediately after the shooting.Columbus police confirm Coy has been relieved of duty as of Tuesday afternoon. 1356

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland school security guard who was charged with rape, accused of soliciting and sexually assaulting multiple students, was reported for inappropriate behavior to Cleveland Metropolitan School District months before he was arrested. Derrick Dugger, 29, a security guard at East Technical High School in Cleveland is due back in court Tuesday morning for the charges. According to court records, investigators said he forced a 15-year-old girl to perform oral sex and sent inappropriate messages to students. A detective wrote in the report that Dugger was “predatory” and “a danger to these young ladies.”Dugger was formally charged with rape last week after an investigation began earlier in November, but one Cleveland family told Scripps affiliate WEWS-TV that they reported him months before.According to Joyce Swann, her 15-year-old daughter who has special needs made a complaint about Dugger soon after the school year began at East Technical High School.A CMSD report of that complaint obtained by WEWS is dated September 7 — more than 2 months before Dugger was charged.In the report, Swann’s daughter told the dean that at first, the guard asked her if she had a boyfriend and asked to check her phone. The next day, he greeted her by saying, “Good morning baby.”After that, the student reported, the guard told her he “liked the way she twerked that a**” on Instagram.The student said she felt uncomfortable and reported it to the dean, who called her mother and told her they would take a report and investigate.But Swann said she never heard an update until the day Dugger was charged.“Who would say that to a little kid? You’re supposed to be making sure these kids are safe and you’re preying on them,” Swann said.She said she is terrified of what could have happened had her daughter not reported it — and angry that the school didn’t do more initially.“My daughter is a special needs child. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Warmer water temperatures are bringing out the stingray encounters in San Diego. Thursday afternoon, 12 more people were stung just days after a similar incident involving 10 to 15 people Tuesday. “I’m not used to the beach I come from Arizona so like this is actually happening,” said Angelo La Rosa, who is visiting from Arizona. “It felt like something was digging into my skin,” said 13-year-old Phoenix Stofa, who was one of at least a dozen stung Thursday. RELATED: 10 to 15 people stung by stingrays in Coronado“Yeah, yeah they don’t want to get stepped on and that’s their only defense mechanism and they have a barb,” said Sgt. Damon Bassett, a lifeguard in Coronado. Basset said he feels for those who get stung. “Anytime you get some nice weather and some warm water people don’t know to shuffle their feet. Then they can come in contact and get stung.”“Don’t walk on the water like you would on land,” Bassett added. A painful lesson for some, but still a day at the beach. “I just thought of the shark movies but it wasn’t a shark alert it was just a stingray. CLAIREMONT MESA EAST (CNS) - A 63-year-old man driving a Cadillac slammed into a 25-year-old motorcyclist in the Clairemont Mesa East neighborhood, breaking the younger man's femur and causing other serious injuries -- which not considered life-threatening, police said today.The 2008 Cadillac CTS was exiting a shopping center driveway when it struck the victim at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.But the Cadillac kept going -- traveling south until it smashed into an apartment gate.The 2018 Honda sport bike ended up in the bushes at a different apartment complex, Heims said.The San Diego Police Traffic Division is investigating, although they said a sobriety check cleared the Cadillac driver of possible DUI charges.Anyone with information about the crash is asked to called the SDPD at 619-531-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-580-8477. 908
