EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A gas leak in the East County forced several businesses to abruptly close Friday, as crews worked to stop the leak.The gas leak occurred North Marshall Ave. and Petree St. at about 12 p.m. when crews with Helix Water District struck a gas pipe while installing a communications line, according to El Cajon Fire Department.A representative with the water district said HWD personnel arrived at the scene after the rupture had occurred and are not responsible for the damage.Crews evacuated a nearby shopping center, where customers at the Black Bear Diner were given five minutes to leave the area. The leak also forced a nearby Rock Church and school to evacuate.For four hours, several blocks were closed to motorists and MTS trolley and bus service were impacted in the area.SDG&E has since stopped the leak by pinching off a section of the pipe in another area. Crews plan to take an additional two hours to repair the damged section of the gas line.No injuries were reported. 1017

EL CAJON (CNS) - A passenger in a vehicle was killed Sunday when its driver left the roadway in El Cajon and struck a light pole.The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the El Cajon Police Department reported.The driver allegedly was speeding westbound on Chase Avenue when the vehicle hit the pole near Wilson Avenue. Police and firefighters were dispatched at approximately 6:45 a.m. to the crash scene in the area of Chase and Wilson avenues.The driver was extracted from the vehicle, treated at the scene and then taken to a local hospital, police said. The driver's condition was not immediately known.El Cajon police asked anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 619-579-3311. 720

If you must take your mask off, use hand sanitizer before and after. Having an extra mask is helpful if yours gets wet or dirty.Note: A few people might not be able to wear a mask, because of a disability or condition.Keep your distance from othersThe CDC suggests staying at least 6 feet from other people as much as you can. That’s about two arms’ lengths. You should stay that far apart even if you’re wearing masks.Clean your hands oftenThe CDC says to wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer before entering and after leaving your election site. Officials also suggest using a sanitizer after touching items that many others may have touched, such as door handles.The CDC says not to wipe down voting equipment yourself unless you are told to do so. It could damage the equipment. Officials also say to make sure your hands are completely dry from sanitizer before touching the equipment.Protect yourself when using transportWhen using any kind of public transport, the CDC suggests wearing a mask, avoid touching things if you can and using sanitizer if you do, staying 6 feet apart from others, and open windows when possible.Avoid crowdsTo help avoid crowds, the CDC says you should try voting at non-peak times, such as mid-morning. (KGTV) - Extra security is in place at Valhalla High School in El Cajon Wednesday after a threat was found on an athletic field.Parents and students showed 10News an email sent by school officials, which indicated the concerning message was not a credible threat.The email to parents indicated that school officials began immediately investigating the threat.Classes are operating on a normal schedule Wednesday.  Deputies are on campus along with the school resource officer. 506
