SHANGHAI, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's trip to Vietnam, during which he attended a series of summits between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its partners, enhanced good-neighborly relations, promoted regional cooperation and common development, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Saturday.During his three-day stay in Hanoi, Wen attended the 13th summit between China and ASEAN (10+1), the 13th summit between ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (10+3) and the fifth East Asia Summit. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The value of yuan, China's currency Renminbi, hit new high against U.S. dollar Monday as the central parity rate of the yuan was set at 6.6732 per U.S. dollar, according to the data released by the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.Monday's central parity rate beat the previous record of 6.6830 on Oct. 8.The yuan has picked up its strength against the U.S. dollars and seen increased volatility in the trading days since the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, announced on June 19 this year to increase exchange rate flexibility.Based on Monday's central parity, the Chinese currency has strengthened against the U.S. dollar by about 2.26 percent from the rate of 6.8275 per U.S. dollar that was set a day before the PBOC's pledge to increase flexibility.On China's foreign exchange spot market, the yuan can rise or fall 0.5 percent from the central parity rate during trading each day.China would continue reform of the formation mechanism of its currency exchange rate to improve its flexibility, but will do so in a gradual way, Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of the People's Bank of China, China's central bank, said in Washington on Sunday.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The China Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo welcomed the 8 millionth visitor Saturday as a senior pavilion official announced its exhibition would run for another six months, beginning Dec.1."The China Pavilion's exhibitions will be extended for half a year beginning Dec.1 to meet people's needs", said Qian Zhiguang, deputy director of the China Pavilion on Saturday.The China Pavilion, named "The Crown of the East", has become increasingly popular since the World Expo open on May 1, with an average of 50,000 visitors daily.However, space restrictions have resulted in many visitors being turned away during the Expo, which closes at the end of October.Further, the China Pavilion is negotiating with local museums which are displaying historical items, to continue showing these national treasures, including bronze chariots and horses from the Qin Emperor, ancient porcelain, and invaluable Chinese paintings from 800 years ago.The China Pavilion is one of the permanent structures that will remain after the World Expo.

KUNMING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The building of a railway between southwest China's Yunnan Province and Laos will kick off on Oct. 28, according to its Chinese contractor.The 530-km railway, expected to be completed in 2015, will link Mohan port in Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna and Vientiane, the capital of Laos, said Li Zhanqun, board chairman of the Yunnan Xiaoxiang Pan-Asia Investment Co., Ltd."We would like to use more workers from Laos to help boost the employment market along the railway," Li said.The railway is part of the Trans-Asian railway network, which will cover 114,000 km and travel through 28 countries throughout the region.In 2009, China ratified an agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network, which was initiated by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).The agreement came into effect in June 2009.
