CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) — Saturday, a Coronado resident happened upon a pet carrier a cat and kittens abandoned on a sidewalk.The carrier was left near the corner of Ocean Blvd. and Marina Ave., just blocks from Coronado Beach and a dog park, according to Wayne Strickland, who found the animals."Somebody just abandoned them," Strickland said, adding he and his wife found a cat and five kittens inside the carrier. "They thought, 'well there's a place here nobody's going to see and we'll just drop them off and be gone.' The animals were taken to PAWS animal rescue.This may not be the first time pets have been abandoned on Coronado's sidewalks. Strickland added that a Facebook user claimed they too found cats abandoned on Alameda Blvd. two months ago."I don't know what the deal is, if people think they can just come over here and Coronado is a good place where they can just abandon their unwanted litter of pets," Strickland said. "But the right thing to do is take them to PAWS or the Humane Society."Just don't leave them out in the sun, in a little box ... it was a terrible thing to see."The San Diego Humane Society says anyone is welcome to make an appointment to surrender an animal or litter. Coca-Cola has introduced a touch-free soda machine amid the coronavirus pandemic.In a press release, the company launched the Coca-Cola Freestyle dispenser, which they say is contactless.“All Coca-Cola beverage dispensers are safe with recommended care and cleaning,” said Chris Hellmann, vice president, and general manager, Coca-Cola Freestyle in the release. “But given these uncertain times, people may prefer a touchless fountain experience. It has been exciting to see our team continuing to innovate – mostly from home – to meet the evolving needs of customers and consumers. CLEVELAND, Ohio - We’re a little over a month away from Thanksgiving and health officials are more concerned than ever thinking about spiking coronavirus cases as families may be planning to gather for the holiday.“We had seen a decrease in cases from our peak, of course, which was in July and we were down into the 40s per day of receiving cases until the mid-last week. Then it started to go up from there," said Romona Brazile, Interim Co-Director of Prevention and Wellness Services at Cuyahoga County Board of Health. "Of course, we want to see our families, but limiting the number of people, still trying to practice social distancing even if it is in your own home, still wearing a mask."Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease agrees. His own family is now sacrificing not seeing each other as his children worry about his age and possible exposure to the virus.“Don't assume that because you're in your own home with your own family that you're not going to spread infection,” he said.Even traveling to see our families is risky. Dr. Fauci said travel on planes and public transportation could increase exposure to the virus.Instead, the CDC is offering up some suggestions on ways you can still have a holiday celebration with friends and family while being safe.The agency said celebrating virtually is your best bet, but if you do meet up in person make sure you stay outside as much as possible and avoid crowds. The CDC also said gatherings with more preventive measures in place pose less risk compared to gatherings with fewer or no preventive measures at all.After any holiday celebrations, you should stay at home as much as possible, avoid crowds and those considered at risk. Clean air can feel hard to find right now.The American Lung Association is working help though, by supporting the production of electric cars.The association wants every car to be electric by 2050 and says the move could save thousands of lives as well as billions of dollars.“We know that air pollution is still a significant health threat,” said Paul Billings, Senior VP of Advocacy at the American Lung Association. “We know that air pollution makes respiratory infections worse and we know that climate change is impacting everyone's health today.”The association’s new report also calls for less coal power and more wind and solar. To get to their goal, they want people to learn more about electric cars.“People have range anxiety. They are afraid they're not going to be able to get as far as they need to go, but today's electric cars can go 300 miles per charge. The average daily miles a consumer drives is around 40 or 50 miles, so you would only need to recharge maybe once, twice a week,” said Billings.The association says auto and policy makers need to do a better job of advertising and selling these vehicles. They want to see more incentives to buy, and more charging infrastructure.A review of more than 700 scientific studies found traffic pollution causes asthma attacks and impairs lung function. The America Lung Association says reducing emissions by 2050 could prevent 93,000 asthma attacks.They say it could create a fairer world when it comes to health, since communities of color are more likely to live closer to major pollution sources. 1574
