Papa John's is trying to repair the damage caused by its CEO's controversial comments about the NFL protests. Two weeks ago, CEO John Schnatter triggered fierce criticism by saying the pizza chain's sales were hurt by the NFL's handling of the controversy over players kneeling during the National Anthem to protest police violence and racial injustice."This should have been nipped in the bud a year and a half ago," Schnatter said on a conference call with investors. "The controversy is polarizing the customer, polarizing the country."The comments spurred a backlash on social media, made the company the butt of jokes on late night shows and forced it to distance itself from neo-Nazi groups. On Tuesday evening, Papa John's -- which has been a league sponsor since 2010 -- attempted an apology on Twitter."The statements made on our earnings call were describing the factors that impact our business and we sincerely apologize to anyone that thought they were divisive," it said. "That definitely was not our intention."The pizza chain said that it supports "the players' movement to create a new platform for change" but that it also believes that "as Americans, we should honor our anthem.""We will work with the players and league to find a positive way forward. Open to ideas from all. Except neo-nazis," the company tweeted, offering a "middle finger" emoji to "those guys."  1397

PHOENIX (KNXV) - Imagine getting the greatest gift of your life and then suddenly having it ripped away. It's what the Gateway Academy in Phoenix is feeling right now. The K-12 school for high functioning students with autism just had an important gift taken away. It's an empty field right now but the plan was for Gateway Academy to remove all of the bushes and gravel to make room for a brand new adaptive playground. The cost of entire project would be picked up by a very generous donor."We thought we had found an angel who understood the population and who's ready to give generously," said Robin Sweet, the school's executive director. "Not so much."That donation, ,000. How much the school has seen of that money? Nothing."Before I signed the purchase order I called him again just to make sure," said Sweet. That donor backed out. Now the school is left with a massive bill, a playground that's sitting in storage on pallets and students who are disappointed."Guess what,  don't see anything out here," said Joseph, an eighth grader at Gateway.  "It's not just to have fun. It would really help us," said Joseph."It's instrumental in their well-being and mental and physical health and then to say, sorry - just kidding?" said Sweet. The school won't identify the donor but Sweet does have a message for the man. "Shame on you. It's not about me but it's about the kids. That's terrible."The school has its hands tied and can't take legal action against the donor. The school is holding a fundraiser at a trampoline park and a?GoFundMe page has also been set up to help the school.  1615

Perry Hopsin was just 22 years old when he got into a car accident that would eventually end his life."My brother, he has been to multiple healthcare facilities, fighting for his life for 10 months," said Parris Hopsin.Last month, Perry died and just as his family was starting to cope with the fact that they would never see him again, the same car he was killed in, popped up in front of Perry High School in Stark County, Ohio. The family says it was there to promote their prom promise campaign-which tries to deter teens from drinking and driving."Our family was under the impression that the car was still being held as evidence in this ongoing investigation," said Parris. The only problem is the Hopsins family never consented to it and their loved one was not drinking and driving."It was definitely not the way Perry would want to be represented and/or our family would want him to be represented and remembered," she said. The school has now removed the car and it's back in the towing company's lot."I really appreciate that they would remove it," said Parris. "But it shouldn't have been there."Now Parris and her family still want answers and an apology."Anyone that was responsible for displaying the car I feel should be held accountable for the pain and grief that they have brought upon our family and our friends," she said.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland reached out to the school district, towing company and the police department but haven't heard anything back.     1520
