SAN DIEGO — NFL quarterback Drew Brees and his wife say a San Diego jeweler lied and falsely represented the value of the jewelry sold to them.That's according to a lawsuit in which Brees and his wife are seeking million in damages and court costs from Vahid Moaradi, the founder of CJ Charles Jewlers, for fraud, a breach of an oral contract, and violations of business professions code.The lawsuit accuses Moradi of making friends with the Breeses and then using his "relationship and position to induce" Brees to rely "on his false representations as to the investment quality and market value" of numerous diamonds, a lawsuit filed in San Diego said.In the lawsuit, Brees says he has spent millions of dollars in business with Moradi, purchasing jewelry as gifts and as investments."In total, [the Brees] invested approximately million in investment quality diamonds recommended by Moradi," the suit states. "The independent appraiser determined the true market value of the diamonds ... was approximately million less than the prices the [Brees] paid."Brees also claims that Moradi "confessed he charged Plaintiffs a substantial markup," in one case charging a 550 percent markup. Brees also argues that Moradi went so far as to conceal the true quality of the diamonds using "reflective and painted settings." Moradi has fought back against the allegation. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday after losing control of his bike, hitting the center median curb and continuing across the lanes of Scripps Poway Parkway in the Miramar Ranch area, San Diego police said.The crash took place on the Scripps Poway Parkway, near 11800 Spruce Run Dr., at 1 a.m., SDPD Officer J. Buttle said.The motorcyclist riding a 2017 Yamaha was moving at a high rate of speed, and failed to negotiate the rightward bend in the road, Buttle said. The man ended up along the south curb line.He was pronounced dead at the scene, Buttle said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A bicyclist riding with a group of cyclists was seriously injured Saturday when he was struck by a motorcycle in Pacific Beach, police said.The collision happened at 3:14 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Ingraham Street and Reed Avenue, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.A 23-year-old man riding a 2017 Harley Davidson Sportster was southbound in the 4200 block of Ingraham as a group of cyclists were eastbound in the 1500 block of Reed Avenue, Buttle said.The cyclists entered the intersection and the motorcycle struck one of them, a 49-year-old man, the officer said.The motorcyclist suffered road rash to his right leg, Buttle said. The bicyclist suffered a broken left femur and broken ribs. Medics took the cyclist to a hospital.Officers from the SDPD traffic division were investigating the collision, Buttle said.Ingraham was closed in both directions at Thomas and Oliver avenues and was expected to last a couple of hours, the SDPD said. 1012

SAN DIEGO (CNS and KGTV) - A San Diego County Superior Court judge ruled Monday in favor of conditional release for a sexually violent predator known as the "Bolder than Most'' rapist.Judge David M. Gill made the controversial decision for Alvin Ray Quarles, 56.Some of those who were in the courtroom when the decision was announced were visibly upset, 10News reporter Jon Horn said. One person yelled, others were in tears.Last fall, Gill ordered that Quarles be released, a decision that prosecutors, along with county Supervisor Dianne Jacob, requested Gill reconsider. Since that time, the agreement to rent the residence in Jacumba Hot Springs has fallen through, and Gill allowed for further argument toward a possible reconsideration of his decision to release Quarles. Gill heard testimony during a closed-door evidentiary hearing last week, which was kept under wraps due to privacy concerns over the potential disclosure of Quarles' psychiatric reports. Quarles' victims and their supporters have argued against the order to keep the hearings private, including by staging a protest on the steps of the downtown San Diego courthouse where the hearings were held. Quarles was dubbed the "Bolder than Most'' rapist because of the way he attacked his victims, at knifepoint, sometimes forcing the women's husbands or boyfriends to watch. He pleaded guilty in 1989 to committing more than a dozen sexual assaults in the mid-to-late 1980s and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.Prior to Quarles' release from prison, the District Attorney's Office filed a petition to have him civilly committed as a sexually violent predator. In 2014, Quarles was committed to the Department of State Hospitals to undergo sex offender treatment. In September 2016, Quarles petitioned the court to be granted release through the Conditional Release Program for sex offenders.Quarles will return to the hospital where he has been held until it's determined where he will be placed.
