DAYTON, Ohio. (AP) -- A Twitter account that appears to be from the gunman who killed nine people in Dayton, Ohio, showed tweets that labeled himself a "leftist," bemoaned the election of President Donald Trump, supported Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren and encouraged people to cut fences of immigrant detention centers. While investigators are still trying to determine a motive for Sunday's attack by 24-year-old Connor Betts before he was gunned down by police, his apparent Twitter feed offers a window into his politics. And it stands in contrast to the social media of El Paso shooting suspect Patrick Crusius, which appeared to support Trump and his border wall. The Associated Press archived some of the feed but it was taken down by Twitter late Sunday amid online speculation it belonged to the Ohio shooter. 826

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Ford and Volkswagen will work together to develop a small city van, a larger cargo van, a small pickup truck and an electric vehicle as part of their global alliance announced last year. The companies on Wednesday announced some details of what the venture will yield, with the city van created by VW and a 1-ton cargo van engineered by Ford to be sold by both companies. Also, VW will make a small pickup built on the underpinnings of Ford’s Ranger, and Ford will build an electric vehicle for Europe based on VW’s modular design, the companies said. The automakers announced the alliance last July amid a string of industry partnerships designed to share the costs of developing new technologies.“In light of the Covid 19 pandemic and its impacts on the global economy, more than ever it is vital to set up resilient alliances between strong companies,” said Volkswagen Group CEO Dr. Herbert Diess. “This collaboration will efficiently drive down development costs, allowing broader global distribution of electric and commercial vehicles, and enhance the positions of both companies.”“This alliance comes at a time of tremendous enthusiasm about the intersection of increasingly intelligent, connected vehicles in an ever-smarter world,” said Ford CEO Jim Hackett. “This creates a huge opportunity to innovate and solve many of the world’s transportation challenges and deliver extraordinary benefits to customers – even as companies need to be selective about how they use their cash.” 1517

Now, this is your chance to pursue the degree or training you’ve been dreaming about to help you and your own family succeed.”The million investment came from the Governor's Education Emergency Relief Fund, part of the Federal CARES Act.“The vast majority of good-paying jobs continue to require at least some education beyond high school,” Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Director Jeff Donofrio said in a release. “Futures for Frontliners gives those who helped save lives and kept our communities operating during the height of COVID an opportunity to increase their skills and income and helps us close the state’s skills gap. For Michigan’s economy to recover and grow, its critical we continue to provide expanded opportunities to all.”Whitmer said this is the first-of-its-kind program in the United States, and she hopes other states will follow suit. The program isn't just eligible for medical workers. Days after NASCAR's only African American driver drove a car with a Black Lives Matter paint scheme, a second racer drove a car with a pro-police paint scheme.Kyler Weatherman drove a car adorned with a "Thin Blue Line" flag — a black-and-white American flag with one blue stripe — and the hashtag #BackTheBlue during Sunday's Dixie Vodka 400.While Weatherman's car did specifically mention the "Blue Lives Matter" movement, the "Thin Blue Line" flag is used as an emblem by the organization.Blue Lives Matter is a pro-police group. Critics say the group's formation directly countered the Black Lives Matter movement. 626

DETROIT (AP) — The U.S. government’s road safety agency is investigating complaints that front suspensions can fail on nearly 115,000 Tesla electric vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has 43 complaints that linkages near the ball joints can fail, allowing contact between the tire and wheel liner. The probe announced Friday covers 2015 through 2017 Model S sedans and 2016 through 2017 Model X SUVs.The agency says 32 owners complained of failures at low speeds, but 11 said the links failed on roads while traveling above 10 mph, including four at highway speeds. The probe could lead to a recall.
