Professor Chikaodinaka Nwankpa of Drexel University was arrested on Monday, accused of stealing 5,000 in research grant funds, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office announced. Nwankpa is accused of using the money for strip clubs, sports bars, meals, and iTunes purchases.Nwankpa was charged with theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception.“Mr. Nwankpa inappropriately and criminally diverted tens of thousands of dollars that were allocated for research purposes toward his own private enjoyment. He betrayed Drexel University and tuition-paying students he was paid to educate,” District Attorney Krasner said. “After a comprehensive investigation by our office’s Economic Crimes Unit, Mr. Nwankpa will have his day in court and will have to answer for his crimes. The District Attorney's Office accused Nwankpa of spending more than ,000 in purchases at adult entertainment venues and sports bars, and more than ,000 on purchases toward iTunes, meals, and other unauthorized purchases."Nwankpa attempted to hide adult entertainment expenses by claiming that the items were for catering and food, despite the fact that 48% of the 114 separate charges he made were done on weekends, and 63% were processed between the hours of midnight and 2:00 a.m.," the District Attorney's Office said in a statement. Nwankpa made the allegedly deceitful purchases from 2010 to 2017. 1403
Shortly after prosecutors said Wednesday they intend to release video that is expected to show Robert Kraft receiving sexual services at a Florida day spa, the New England Patriots owner's legal team filed an emergency motion aiming to block the release.Kraft's lawyers has maintained that releasing the video would violate their client's constitutional rights and hamper his chance for a fair trial. The Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office said earlier that it would release video showing Kraft and 24 other men charged after a monthslong, multi-jurisdictional sting, according to court documents. The release would come not in the case against Kraft but in the cases of two women accused of running the Orchids of Asia Day Spa that Kraft is accused of patronizing, court documents show.As custodian of the records, prosecutors say state law compels them to release the evidence to the media. They intended to "pixelate or blur depictions of obscene or pornographic images before releasing such records to the public, absent a court order," the court documents said.It was not clear when prosecutors intended to release the video. At a Friday hearing, Judge Leonard Hanser did not rule on whether to release video but asked all parties to submit proposed orders in the case by Tuesday.Hundreds of people were charged in the sting involving several massage parlors and day spas in Florida. Kraft faces two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial.Prosecutors 1533

South Dakota doesn't get a lot of tornadoes, but a twister there last weekend was particularly rare -- because it was spinning clockwise. The National Weather Service says the anticyclonic tornado only lasted for about 45 seconds on June 15. That was long enough for it to knock down seven trees at a farmstead outside of Estelline, which is about 80 miles north of Sioux Falls.Only about 1% of tornadoes that hit the Northern Hemisphere rotate in a clockwise direction, the National Weather service says. The weather service used radar data and video to make its determination about the South Dakota storm.Becky Bates shot one of those videos while chasing the storm with her family."It honestly didn't seem unusual to me," Bates told CNN. "This was my first catch. I just chase for fun. But it touched down a couple of times while we sat and watched."The tornado had estimated peak winds of 75 mph and its path was about one tenth of a mile long.It caused only relatively minor damage. One of the downed trees bent the metal overhang on a shed.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved. 1153
