GREELEY, Colo. — A Colorado woman says she was denied a haircut at a local Great Clips because her baby son was not wearing a mask.Meri Smith decided she was finally ready to get a haircut. It would have been her first one since the COVID-19 pandemic reached the U.S. in March.She made an online appointment at Great Clips, and when she went to the salon to check-in, she was told that her son "can't come in" to the building."They said you can't come in because he's under two and he can't wear a mask," Smith said.Smith said she was confused and humiliated by the situation. As a teacher, she's familiar with Colorado's statewide mask mandate and she knows it doesn't apply to children who are 10 and younger."I just felt rejected. It made me sad and uncomfortable that I couldn't go get a haircut just because my son was a baby," Smith said.A spokesperson for Great Clips released the following statement from Michelle Iacovetta, the COO of Holtzman Enterprises, Inc. and a Great Clips franchisee."Holtzman Enterprises, Inc. does not require children under two years of age to wear a mask in our salons, following guidance from the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The misunderstanding of this policy that took place recently in our Greeley salon was unfortunate and disappointing. Hawaii will remain effectively closed to tourists until at least October 1.The state currently has a strict 14-day quarantine for anyone coming to the islands, tourists and returning residents alike. The quarantine stopped tourism as it states anyone arriving must remain at a home or hotel for 14 days (not a vacation rental), and cannot visit other islands or tourist locations, or rent a car.This quarantine plan started in March and was supposed to be relaxed September 1 to allow visitors to bypass the quarantine if they presented a negative COVID-19 test. However, Hawaii Gov. All residents of Leilani Estates, a community of about 1,700 people near Big Island's eastern edge, and nearby Lanipuna Gardens were ordered to evacuate.The eruption was followed by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake Friday.As of Sunday, 10 fissures had opened and 26 homes had been destroyed. Heavy rain caused a central Texas river to rise to a near-record level in about a day, leading to a bridge collapse, flooded homes and evacuations.The Llano River rose to nearly 40 feet Tuesday in the city of Llano -- about 35 feet higher than it was just 24 hours earlier before -- thanks to 8 to 10 inches of rain that fell in the area over the past two days, the National Weather Service said.A few miles away, in Kingsland, the swollen river rushed against the top of the RM 2900 bridge for hours, eventually causing it to collapse, video from CNN affiliate KEYE showed. No one appeared to be on the bridge, and no injuries were immediately reported.Video from Darlene Walthall also showed the river washing over the span before the collapse.The Llano County Office of Emergency Management ordered people living within a quarter mile of the river to evacuate Tuesday morning.The Llano River meets the Colorado River in Kingsland. Houses near the Colorado were flooded, resident Terri Kleen said.
