BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A revised version of China's Regulation on Work-Related Injury Insurance will take effect Saturday, raising compensation standards while expanding the coverage to more organizations.The previous regulation stipulated that the compensation to families of workers who die on the posts is no more than five times the average annual salary in the previous year. The sum varies depending on the regions where the workers are working.Under the current system, the national average compensation is about 100,000 yuan, but the lowest regional average compensation is about 40,000 yuan.The new regulation raises the compensation to 20 times the national annual disposable income for urbanites per capita in the previous year, which means about 340,000 yuan according to 2009 statistics.In addition, the revised regulation covers the country's public institutions, social groups, non-profit grass-root organizations, foundations, law firms and accounting firms.Previously, the rules only include enterprises and small businesses and their employees in the system.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday rejected a zero-sum formula on U.S.-China relationship, saying that the two countries have much more to gain from cooperation than from conflict.Delivering a speech on the future relations between the U.S. and China at the State Department, Clinton said it does not make sense to apply zero-sum 19th-century theories of how major powers interact in the 21st century."We reject those views," she said, referring to views which depict China's growth as a "threat" or U.S. policy on China as " containment."The State Department described the speech, delivered to inaugurate an annual forum dedicated to veteran U.S. diplomat Richard Holbrooke, as setting stage for a state visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao next week.Clinton said that the world is moving through uncharted territory and needs new ways of understanding the shifting dynamics of the international landscape, a landscape marked by emerging centers of influence, but also by nontraditional, even non-state actors and the unprecedented challenges and opportunities created by globalization.This is a fact that is especially applicable to the U.S.-China relationship, she said, noting that the engagement between the two countries can only be understood in the context of this new and more complicated landscape."We are in the same boat. And we will either row in the same direction or we will, unfortunately, cause turmoil and whirlpools that will impact not just our two countries, but many people far beyond either of our borders," she said.The secretary said although the United States and China are two complex nations with very different histories, with profoundly different political systems and outlooks, there is a lot about the two peoples that reminds them of each other: an energy, an entrepreneurial dynamism, a commitment to a better future for one' s children and grandchildren."We are both deeply invested in the current order, and we both have much more to gain from cooperation than from conflict," she said. "That doesn't mean we will not be competitors ... BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) on Sunday stressed it would assure that there is a stable supply of farm produce amid ongoing icy weather as the nation's most important traditional festival approaches.The ministry urged local authorities, in a notice on its website, to make every effort to ensure continued agriculture production as the freezing weather threatens abundant supplies, which are critical during the Spring Festival, the annual season for family reunions.Temperatures and humidity in vegetable greenhouses and corrals should be kept at proper levels, while exposure to frigid weather by poultry and livestock should be minimized.The ministry also asked local departments to facilitate the smooth transporting to markets of fresh farm produce.Freezing weather in south China has forced the evacuation of at least 58,000 people from their homes over the past week, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.Southern China will experience more icy rain and snow from Sunday to Thursday, where freezing weather has hit since the New Year's Day, the National Meteorological Center reported Sunday.

BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- China Friday protested two Japanese local assembly members' landing on an isle of the Diaoyu Islands, saying the move seriously infringed China's territorial sovereignty."The Diaoyu Islands and its adjacent islets have been an integral part of the Chinese territory since ancient times," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu reiterated Friday night.According to reports, two members of the municipal assembly of Ishigaki, Okinawa Prefecture, landed on an islet of the Diaoyu Islands and stayed there for a while Friday morning.Jiang said China has lodged a solemn representation and voiced strong opposition to the Japanese side.
