Two men attempting to get food samples at a Costco in South Carolina ended up fighting after one cut line in front of the other. The State news outlet in Columbia reports on July 26, a 70-year-old man was waiting in line for a free sample of cheese when the other man involved, who is 72 years old, cut in front of him, took a sample and walked away.It happened again when the 70-year-old man moved to a line for free samples of cheeseburgers. The 72-year-old man again cut the line in front of him. That's when things got heated, according to The State. The two men exchanged words, and the 72-year-old slapped the 70-year-old, according to witnesses and the police report that was filed. US authorities will remove restrictions on importing African elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia. That means Americans will soon be able to hunt the endangered big game, an activity that garnered worldwide attention when a Minnesota dentist took Cecil, perhaps the world's most famous lion, near a wildlife park in Zimbabwe.A US Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman said the move will allow the two African countries to include US sport hunting as part of their management plans for the elephants and allow them to put "much-needed revenue back into conservation."Critics, however, note the restrictions were created by the Obama administration in 2014 because the African elephant population had dropped. The animals are listed in the US Endangered Species Act, which requires the US government to protect endangered species in other countries."We can't control what happens in foreign countries, but what we can control is a restriction on imports on parts of the animals," said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States. The number of elephants in the wild plummeted 30% overall between 2007 and 2014, despite large scale conservation efforts. In some places it has dropped more than 75% due to ivory poaching. In 2016, there were just over 350,000 elephants still alive in the wild, down from millions in the early 20th Century.Pacelle, who opposes the decision, told CNN it means "elephants minding their business are going to be gunned down by rich Americans."Safari Club International, a worldwide network of hunters, cheered the announcement."We appreciate the efforts of the Service and the US Department of the Interior to remove barriers to sustainable use conservation for African wildlife," SCI President Paul Babaz said in a statement.President Donald Trump's sons Donald Jr. and Eric are themselves big game hunters. Photos posted in 2012 by the website Gothamist show Donald Jr. holding an elephant tail. The website says the photos were from a 2011 hunt in Zimbabwe. When Donald Jr. addressed the photos at the time, he did not deny their authenticity or where they were taken. "I can assure you it was not wasteful," he posted on Twitter, adding, "The villagers were so happy for the meat which they don't often get to eat."Pacelle, of the Humane Society, noted that corruption in the Zimbabwean government was a concern when the US banned trophy imports from the nation in 2014.Zimbabwe is currently in a leadership crisis, after the military seized power this week and placed President Robert Mugabe under house arrest.  2589

TUCSON, Ariz. — With hospitals at capacity due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, an Arizona woman says her mother had to wait 13 hours in bed in a hallway while waiting for a room to open up.Sam Bero said her mother went to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tempe last week after delaying care for an infection earlier this year.Bero said her mother's illness went from infection to kidney stones, and eventually turned into a larger medical issue.“It just ended up turning into a bigger problem than it should've been,” she said. The Center for Disease Control released a report in June that estimated that 41% of U.S. adults had avoided medical care because of COVID-19 concerns — included 12% who reported having avoided urgent or emergency care.Bero said her mother got to the hospital at 1 p.m. and wasn't given a room until 2:45 a.m.“They were triaging patients in the waiting room, so doing all the blood pressure, IVs and all in the waiting room,” Bero said. “And then, when she finally did get a bed, she was in a bed in the hallway for 13 hours.”On Tuesday, the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) reported that there are 192 ICU beds available across Arizona and 1,093 inpatient beds available. ADHS is reported the highest number of inpatient COVID-19 patients in this new surge, with 2,084 people in their hospital metrics.COVID-19 patients in ICUs also are climbing with 474 people hospitalized — a similar number we saw right before a surge in cases this summer.Hospital leaders across Arizona say that the number of available beds can change throughout the day as the number of patients goes can change.A spokesperson for Carondelet Health Network — the company that operates St. Joseph's — said that while their hospitals continue to have the capacity to treat patients needing medical care, “like any hospital, the number of patients in-house can fluctuate daily.”Hospitals across Arizona are working to secure more staffing, as there is expected to be an increase in hospitalizations from COVID-19 in the coming weeks.“We commend our team of health care professionals who are working valiantly to ensure our preparedness as we continue caring for our community,” the Carondelet spokesperson said.Bero said her mother has since been released from the hospital, and she’s expected to be okay.“The poor nurses and doctors are so overworked,” she said. This story was originally published by Nicole Grigg on KNXV in Phoenix. 2441

Uber and Lyft have been awarded a five-year federal contract, estimated to be worth up to 0 million, according to various reports. The contract was awarded Monday by the General Services Administration, according to both companies.Although federal employees could use Uber and Lyft in the past, the contract will allow the ride-sharing companies to formally work with federal agencies to launch and promote their services to their roughly 4 million employees. “The expansion of our customer base to include government is a natural next step for us, and we’re proud to help federal agencies tackle some of the biggest administrative challenges they face,” Ronnie Gurion, global head of Uber for Business, said in a statement to The Hill. The contracts were tentatively awarded to Uber and Lyft in April, following a multi-year negotiation process. At the time, according to reports, the GSA said they were able to negotiate discounts between two and four percent. 971
