DEMOPOLIS, Ala. – The mother of a 9-year-old Alabama girl who took her own life is suing school officials who allegedly ignored the child's complaints about months of bullying. The federal lawsuit was filed Thursday in Mobile by the mother and grandmother of McKenzie Adams. The girl was a fourth-grader at U.S. Jones Elementary School in Demopolis when she killed herself in December 2018. The suit claims administrators and a teacher ignored the girl's complaints about being bullied. In one case, the suit says a teacher told the girl: “Tell it to the wall.” A school system lawyer didn't immediately return a message seeking comment. 649

CHICAGO, Ill. – Contigo is recalling about 5.7 million of its kids water bottles because their clear silicone spouts can detach, posing a choking hazard to children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall Wednesday, saying Contigo has received a total of 427 reports of the spouts detaching, including 27 spouts found in children’s mouths. The affected water bottles were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target and other stores nationwide, as well as online on various websites, from April 2018 through February 2020 for between and . The water bottles were sold individually as well as in two-packs and three-packs.The water bottles come in three sizes (13 ounce, 14 ounce and 20 ounce) and four colors (solid color, graphics, stainless steel and stainless steel solid colors). The CPSC says the base and cover of the clear silicone spout will always be black, and only black colored spout base and spout cover models are included in this recall. Contigo is printed on the rim and along the front near the bottom of the bottles. In addition to the water bottles, the recall also involves replacement lids that were given to consumers as part of an August 2018 recall of the same product. The CPSC says consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bottles and take them away from children. Consumers with the products should contact Contigo for a free replacement bottle. 1417

Country star Travis Tritt's tour bus was involved in a fatal car wreck as it was leaving Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, early Saturday morning, the musician said on Twitter. Two people were killed and another was injured in the multi-vehicle accident, Horry County Fire Rescue said. Two vehicles and Tritt's tour bus were involved in the wreck. No one on the tour bus was injured, but Tritt was shaken by the experience, according to his twitter.A Jeep was traveling in the wrong direction and crashed into a Chevrolet truck head-on, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. According to Tritt, the driver was going the wrong way on South Carolina Highway 22, also known as Veterans Highway. His bus was sideswiped when trying to avoid the wreck but sustained only minor damage. The celebrity said the wreck was the result of someone driving while under the influence."I’m told that two people were killed in tonight’s accident as the the result of someone who was obviously driving drunk or impaired," Tritt said on Twitter. "Just a sober reminder to everyone to never drive if you’ve been drinking or impaired in any way. Uber or Lyft is just a phone call away."The names of the two people killed have not been released.Tritt expressed his condolences for those killed."We sustained minor damage as we tried to avoid the crash site in front of us,," Tritt tweeted. "Bus damage can be fixed, but lives cannot be replaced. I’m so incredibly sad for those who lost their lives tonight." 1501

DETROIT — A Michigan mother claims her 15-year-old daughter was booted from a Spirit Airlines flight from Tampa to Detroit without notice. Now, she's taking action and suing the airline. The alleged incident happened in April 2018 when the family was returning from Ft. Lauderdale and had to switch planes in Tampa.Stacy Giordano had a seat with her son in the back of the plane, and her daughter was reportedly assigned to a seat in the front of the aircraft. That's when Giordano's attorney Jerry Thurswell claims Giordano's daughter was suddenly removed from the plane to make room for another passenger due to overbooking.“They didn’t want to hear anything. They just pulled her off the plane," Thurswell said.Thurswell said the teenager attempted to reach her mother by phone, but was unable to do so because of the airline's mandatory "airplane mode" policy on cell phones. Giordano's phone was not receiving messages. The girl was put on another flight back to Detroit hours later. Giordano didn't realize her daughter was gone until mid-flight.“You don’t just separate a child from their mother," Thurswell said.“The safety and security of our Guests is our top priority,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement.Thurswell said the airline refunded Giordano a ticket and offered her extra flight miles. The family is suing for more than ,000 in damages. 1369
