LOS ANGELES (AP) — ViacomCBS says it's cutting ties with Nick Cannon because of what the media giant called his "hateful speech” and anti-Semitic theories.The company’s move came in response to remarks made by Cannon on a podcast in which he discussed racial bias with a former Public Enemy member, Richard Griffin.On the podcast, Variety reports that Cannon said Black people are the “true Hebrews" and discussed anti-Semitic conspiracy theories involving the Rothschild family.“It’s never hate speech, you can’t be anti-Semitic when we are the Semitic people,” Cannon said, according to Variety. “When we are the same people who they want to be. That’s our birthright. We are the true Hebrews.”Cannon produced “Wild ’n Out,” a comedy improv series for VH1, the ViacomCBS-owned cable channel.He’s been a regular part of TV on shows unconnected to the company, including as the former host of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and host of Fox’s “The Masked Singer.”In an online post before ViacomCBS’ decision, Cannon said he doesn't condone hate speech.In a lengthy statement posted on Facebook Wednesday morning, Cannon wrote that he is saddened by the company’s decision and said, “the moment was stolen and highjacked to make an example of an outspoken Black man.”The 39-year-old apologized, saying “Systemic racism is what this world was built on and was the subject in which I was attempting to highlight in the recent clips that have been circulating from my podcast. LITTLETON, Colo. — A local woman says she entered the My Oreo Creation contest, her idea was picked as a finalist, yet she's never been acknowledged by Oreo as a winner.Taylor Young, of Lone Tree, submitted her idea for a cherry cola flavored Oreo last May. Shortly after submitting her idea, she received a note from Oreo and its parent company, Mondelez International, Inc., that read, "Dear Taylor Young, Thanks for sending us your idea. We thought it was so delicious, we turned it into this one-of-a-kind creation just for you. Straight from the wonder vault. Enjoy!"They also sent her a small packet with two cherry cola flavored Oreo cookies inside."It is pretty good,” Young said. “I tried it.”Young was on cloud nine.The contest states all finalists are awarded ,000. And it states the person who submits the winning flavor will win 0,000.“I, from what I can tell, was the first person to tweet that idea," Young said.But then, for Young, the contest turned sour. Oreo stopped communicating with her. A Metro police officer recorded the video on the Purple Line's Normandie/Wilshire Metro stop Tuesday evening, KABC reported. The identity of the woman, seen holding bags of possessions, was not immediately available. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating 56 allegations of misconduct during protests against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death. The LAPD says Wednesday that of the 56 investigations, 28 involve alleged uses of force. While most protests have been peaceful, there were violent clashes with police and businesses were vandalized. Floyd, a black man, died on May 25 after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes while he was handcuffed and lying on the ground. His death prompted protests across the U.S. and around the world against police brutality and racial injustice. 678
