She was 71.The Associated Press reported that Reinking's manager Lee Gross confirmed that the actress died Saturday while visiting family in Seattle.According to Variety, Christopher Dean, who teaches dance to Reinking's niece, first announced Reinking's passing on his Facebook page. 401

NEW YORK -- A Bronx man is facing murder charges after his mother was found dead in their apartment early Wednesday, according to the NYPD.Police say Carmen Aponte, 66, was discovered by her adult daughter around 1:30 a.m. when she came home to the family's apartment on Seneca Avenue, near Faile Street in the Hunts Point section.Responding officers say they found the woman unconscious in her bed with injuries to her head. NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. health officials are taking a new tack in the coronavirus fight by emphasizing recent research that finds a mask protects the person who wears it. Previously, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised masks because of medical evidence that it stops people who are infected with coronavirus — whether they know it or not — from spreading it to others. But this week the CDC posted on its Web site a scientific brief discussing recent studies finding that a wearer gets some protection even if an infected person has no mask.The brief added that adopting a universal masking policy, "can help avert future lockdowns, especially if combined with other non-pharmaceutical interventions such as social distancing, hand hygiene, and adequate ventilation.""Experimental and epidemiological data support community masking to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2. The prevention benefit of masking is derived from the combination of source control and personal protection for the mask wearer. The relationship between source control and personal protection is likely complementary and possibly synergistic, so that individual benefit increases with increasing community mask use," the brief read. Researchers pointed to the coronavirus outbreak on the USS Theodore Roosevelt as an example of the effectiveness of mask-wearing, saying, "use of face coverings on-board was associated with a 70% reduced risk."The brief said more research is needed to identify combinations of materials used for face coverings to maximize blocking and filtering effectiveness, as well as durability and comfort. 1620

North Korea has agreed to refrain from conducting nuclear and missile tests while engaging in dialogue with South Korea, Seoul's national security chief Chung Eui-yong said Tuesday after returning from a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.Chung added that Pyongyang also expressed willingness to talk to the United States "in an open-ended dialogue to discuss the issue of denuclearization and to normalize relations with North Korea."Chung said that as part of the dialogue, the two Koreas would hold a summit next month, the first of its kind in more than a decade.The last inter-Korean summit was in 2007, when South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun met Kim's father, late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.The meeting will be held at the Panmunjom Peace House on the South Korean side of the demilitarized zone that divides the two countries, Chung said.Pyongyang and Seoul will also open a communication hotline that will enable Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in to speak directly.Moon sent Chung and four other top government officials to Pyongyang Monday, when they met with Kim and some of his top aides.It's believed to be the first time the young North Korean leader has ever met with any officials from South Korea since taking power in 2011.Developing story - more to come  1312
