BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Maltese counterpart, George Vella, on Monday, agreeing to strengthen bilateral ties.

"Lawyers are supposed to safeguard the law," said Wang Jinxi, a law professor with China University of Political Science and Law. "Being a lawyer does not mean they can break the law, and no country allows people to carry out criminal activities just because they are lawyers," Wang said.

According to the Chinese envoy, tackling climate change is a priority for both China and the United States. Both have made bold commitments of cutting carbon emissions and are determined to promote comprehensive and balanced outcomes in the 2015 Climate Change Conference in Paris. Both believe that reducing carbon emissions will not impede economic growth but generate more jobs and opportunities, and bring more practical cooperation between them.

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong said at the opening ceremony that the congress would be "a very significant event in the development of international historical sciences and will contribute greatly to the communication and mutual understanding among different civilizations" .
