SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents in San Ysidro and Tijuana are fearful of what will come next after hundreds of migrants rushed the border Sunday in a show of force.Commuters said they fear that they won’t be able to get across a bridge in San Ysidro to work or cross over to see family.In Mexico, residents say they’re fed up with the flood of migrants. “Deport them back to where they are, let them over here. They need to get out of Tijuana because it's just crazy for us,” said Candace Sanchez, a Tijuana resident.On the US side, those with family south of the border are concerned with what the future holds. “It worries me that the border might get closed. I mean it's like uh what's going on? We've never really seen this before,” said Victor Juarez.Employees who depend on their jobs in the US are also frightened. “Kinda scary because you know, I mean, every day we just know that we have to do what we have to do every day just to survive,” said Dana Aviles.Many people missed a day of work due to Sunday’s border closure, taking a toll with the holiday gift-giving season approaching. “I just hope they get out of here in Tijuana and let our lives be normal again, you know,” added Sanchez. 1206

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer says the city's Get It Done mobile app has led to thousands of tons of trash being removed.In the app's first three years, more than 7,000 tons of trash, debris, and waste has been removed from public spaces around the city.The city broke that number up into:Illegal dumping/litter removal - 4,440 tons of wasteEncampment debris cleanup - 2,528 tons of wasteThe app was made available in 2017 to encourage residents to report trash and other concerns in their neighborhoods. Since then, city crews have responded to more than 6,500 reports and conducted more than 32,000 proactive cleanups.The average response time has also shrunk from 25 days in 2017 to five days in 2020, the city says.Council members have also been able to use the data received from the app to identify hot spots in their districts.The app is part of the city's "Clean SD" program. The program was born out of a need to clean unsanitary areas in the public, including homeless encampments, according to the city. Since 2017, the city has sanitized and power washed 18,000 city blocks, or about 1,800 miles of sidewalk."Clean SD is all about restoring a sense of pride in our communities and making sure our neighborhoods are clean and safe for everyone. Our cleanup crews have accomplished that and so much more," Faulconer said this week from the site of a frequent illegal dumping site in Paradise Hills. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said Thursday that the city is expected to see a major decline in tax revenue due to the coronavirus. Faulconer said the city usually takes in an estimated 0 million in sales tax throughout the fiscal year. This year, however, the city is expected to lose million in sales tax alone. Similarly, Faulconer added that the city could lose as much as million in tourism tax. The news comes the day after the famous Hotel del Coronado announced its closure amid the COVID-19 pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and other local health and community leaders urged San Diegans to put their focus on the fight against the coronavirus instead of the restrictions placed on businesses due to the pandemic.During a Monday morning press conference, Fletcher specifically called out fellow Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristin Gaspar, who have been pushing for reopenings.“In particular Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristen Gaspar are inciting a fight between government and small business. They’re exploiting the pain and suffering that small businesses are going through as a result of a global pandemic as a wedge for political gain. It is reckless and irresponsible leadership,” Fletcher said.Fletcher’s comments come as San Diego County inches towards the possibility of moving from the red tier into California’s most restrictive purple tier.In response to Fletcher’s remarks, Gaspar issued this statement:“This morning Supervisor Fletcher held a hellfire and brimstone press conference in which he ironically and incorrectly blamed me for playing politics with COVID. Let me set the record straight: I have never supported any approach to re-opening that was not specifically supported by our Public Health Officer and clinical leadership team.
