ENCINITAS (KGTV)-- An Encinitas man is warning other pet parents of the dangers hidden at dog parks, one almost killing his fur baby Kelly. They were at Power Lines Dog Park Thursday evening, as usual, and something caught Kelly's sniffer."She would not stop searching through there," her owner James McDonald said. She was digging in the bushes, then stopped, craddling her foot.He thought, being an active dog as she is, she strained herself."I picked her up and carried her to the car... When I got her home she couldn't even walk," he said, "So I put her in our bed and just sacrificed the duvet, she can puke all over my duvet that's okay."He said it was extreme, and violent. He was terrified she would choke on her own vomit, so he compressed her chest each time to ensure she could breathe in air.He said she was completely limp. An hour of this goes by, then she started coming around, sort of."She would come to conscious with fear in her eyes, not knowing where she was, who she was or what was happening?" McDonald said.James knew she was poisoned but didn't want to take her to the vet."I wanted her to die comfortably, I'm sorry," he said choking back tears, "I wanted her to die comfortably in my arms, not in a cage with a needle stuck in her arm."That night his son found a bit of brownie on her paw, leading them to believe she found and ate a pot brownie. His sons had an idea of how it got there, "one son said he actually has hidden them in the park, another son said he's found them in the park."The whole incident drove McDonald to post on the Nextdoor app, to warn neighbors. He swore to never come back to that dog park, and only returned to tell his story of warning. The VCA said they've seen many more accidental poisonings since the legalization of pot in California. The San Diego Humane Society said pet parents need to lock up drugs in their home. McDonald said fellow pet lovers should also keep a watchful eye over their fur babies. 1991

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Escondido Union School District Thursday confirmed two people at Mission Middle School tested positive for coronavirus.District officials were notified Tuesday of the positive tests, and officials noted the cases were separate and not related."In an abundance of caution and in alignment with guidance from the San Diego County public health department, all students and staff members who were determined to be potential close contacts with either individual were notified immediately, and were advised to begin a 14-day quarantine", said district spokeswoman Michelle Breier.According to the district, the quarantine includes 25 students, five teachers, and three classroom aides.Under Escondido Union’s hybrid model, some students returned for in-person classes in late September. The district has implemented health and safety measures for students and staff, including limiting class sizes, enforcing social distancing, requiring face masks, conducting health screenings, and swift contact tracing following notification of a positive test.Escondido Union School District is a preschool-grade eight elementary district that is entirely separate from the high school district. They have nearly 15,000 students at 23 campuses. 1267

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) — The victims of Friday's deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas were identified Saturday, as officials reopened the beach but cautioned that the area remained active. Speaking to the press, Encinitas Lifeguard Captain Larry Giles said the site around the collapse will remain taped off from the public as crews continue to assess the stability of the rock."From what we've learned this morning ... the area's still active. [Geotechnical consultant] is concerned about the areas to the side of the current failure failing," Giles said. "The failure is not affecting the structures up top. Geotech is assuring us that is not a factor."RELATED: Three dead, two injured in north San Diego County bluff collapseA 30-foot by 25-foot slab of rock came crashing down onto Grandview Beach at about 3 p.m. Friday, killing one person and injuring four others. Two of those injured in the collapse later died of their injuries. Two of the three victims were identified as 35-year-old Anne Clave and 65-year-old Julie Davis.Officials moved a nearby lifeguard tower next to the site of the collapse as a safety precaution, Giles said. The beach, though, would reopen to the public Saturday, Giles said.Lifeguards will be posted nearby throughout the weekend as well.SATURDAY PRESS CONFERENCE:Moments after the collapse, beachgoers and lifeguards began sifting through the rubble to save those caught in the rocks' path."The lifeguard was there, adjacent to the incident, felt it, heard it. It just happened to take place outside of his peripheral, as he was watching the water it happened behind him," Giles told reporters. "He immediately got out of the lifeguard tower, called it in, sized it up, started requesting resources and engaged in doing rescue work."Other lifeguards in the area filtered in quickly along with fire crews from around the area."INTERACTIVE MAP: Most recent San Diego County bluff collapsesLifeguards warn beachgoers about hazardous areas of the beach's bluffs, Giles added. Though, lifeguards can only warn visitors and not forcibly remove them from being too close. The city recommends beachgoers stay 25 to 40 feet away from bluffs and exercise caution due to the cliffs' natural instability."This is a naturally eroding coastline so it does happen from time to time. This is an isolated incident ... at this location," Giles said. "Our hearts go out to the families and friends that were involved."RELATED: Encinitas bluffs are a trouble spot known to geologists 2506

Every year, people are told to get their holiday shopping done and shipped early. But this year, in 2020, it might be a good idea to really do it. Federal Judge Robert Lasnik issued a temporary restraining order on Tuesday "blocking federal government from allowing distribution of downloadable 3D printed" guns, according to a tweet from the Washington State Office of the Attorney General."The judge's rule is clear," Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said at a news conference. "We go back to the status quo, before the federal government made the disastrous decision to undo these protections for public safety."At least 10 US states were scrambling to block access to plans that would allow people to print 3D guns on Tuesday.New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a series of actions Tuesday to prevent the distribution of the 3D gun designs. Cuomo issued a cease-and-desist letter to Defense Distributed, a Texas gun-rights organization that posts the plans online, to block the distribution of designs for 3D guns in New York. The governor called the impending release "reckless."Cuomo also directed state police to issue a notice reminding New Yorkers that manufacturing firearms defined as assault weapons is illegal in New York."As the nation rises up and calls for action against gun violence, it is absurd and frightening that the federal government wants to make accessing an automatic weapon as easy as hitting print," he said. "New York is proud to have the strongest gun safety laws in the nation, and we won't let this federal government take us backwards."Cuomo said he will pursue legislation to bolster the state's gun safety laws and outlaw private production of all 3D and so-called "ghost guns" that are untraceable and invisible to metal detectors.Cuomo's actions came after Pennsylvania went to court Sunday to block early distribution of the plans, which weren't supposed to be available for download until Wednesday. But more than 1,000 designs were downloaded recently, in advance of the agreed upon August 1 date.At the hearing, Defense Distributed agreed to block Pennsylvania IP addresses for a few days until a more formal hearing could be held.Josh Blackman, a lawyer for Defense Distributed, told CNN on Monday the Pennsylvania case was about free speech rights, not the manufacture of guns."One state cannot censor the speech of a citizen in another state," he said.Other states also are trying to bar access to 3D printed guns. Iowa and Virginia on Tuesday announced they are joining a federal lawsuit that asks a judge to block the court action that lets people download plansThese latest battles flared after Defense Distributed reached a settlement in June with the federal government that will allow it to post 3D printable gun plans online. The settlement ended a multiyear legal battle that started when Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson posted designs for a 3D printed handgun he called "The Liberator" in 2013. The single-shot pistol was made almost entirely out of ABS plastic -- the same material Lego bricks are made from -- and could be made on a 3D printer.Wilson sued the federal government in 2015. 3041
