An email sent by a student to the principal and all of the freshmen at Oconomowoc High School prompted a police investigation into possible safety concerns.The email accused a different student of being a threat and mentioned the fictional character Slender Man.Police immediately investigated some of the claims in that email and the district says it determined there is no threat to student safety.The email sent on Wednesday includes many personal details about the student and says the person "...believes she has multiple personalities...is the daughter of slenderman."Slender Man became well-known in 2014, when two girls from Waukesha, Wisconsin — located about a half hour from Oconomowoc — said they stabbed their classmate 19 times to please the character.They both were recently committed to mental health facilities.In addition to mentioning Slender Man, the Oconomowoc student also claimed that this other student "wanted me to join her and two other girls in a cult-like group called the 'Trinity Sisters.'""I didn't find them to be true," said Alexis Zimmerman, a junior at the school.She says she and many other students weren't concerned about what the email said but were more upset that it even went out."I don't think anyone found it as a threat," she said. "It was just, it wasn't something right to say about someone else."Alexis' mother Nicole Gronitz says the school notified parents about the email, but she too wasn't concerned."It really didn't make me think twice about it," she said. An alleged sex-trafficking victim was able to escape her captors by jumping out of an 18-wheeler Wednesday night.The Cisco Police Department says around 9 p.m., officers responded to a call of a female who had been seriously injured near the Flying J/Denny's on IH-20.Police say the female injured herself after jumping from an 18-wheeler. She told officers she had been kidnapped in El Paso.It is believed that the perpetrators were going to use the female in sex trafficking operations.The Cisco Fire Department, Cisco EMS and DPS Troopers were also on-scene. The female was transported to a medical facility for treatment of her injuries.The 18-wheeler is described as a green truck tractor with a white stripe and pulling a white box-type trailer. It is occupied by three men.Another female is reportedly still in the truck and maybe in grave danger.A statewide broadcast was issued last night by Cisco PD in an attempt to locate the truck. As of publication, there has been no contact with the truck.Anyone with information is asked to contact local law enforcement at 254-629-1728. Amid a venomous political atmosphere, the two leading candidates for governor in Utah are making it a point to be civil in the final weeks before the election.Republican Spencer Cox and Democrat Chris Peterson stood side by side in a pair of public service announcements intended to tone down the political rhetoric. Cox, the state’s current lieutenant governor, is largely considered the frontrunner to win the race.“We can debate issues without degrading each other’s character,” Peterson said in the 30-second ad. A longer 60-second announcement was also filmed.“We can disagree without hating each other,” Cox added.“Win or lose, in Utah, we work together,” Peterson added.The two candidates concluded the advertisement with, “We approve this message.” 764

An F-16 fighter jet intercepted a plane that was flying in a restricted area during President Trump's rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Wednesday afternoon.North American Aerospace Defense Command officials say the plane was intercepted around 2 p.m. after officials noticed it had entered the Temporary Flight Restriction area surrounding Bullhead City.Officials say the violating aircraft did not respond to initial intercept procedures, but established radio communications after NORAD aircraft deployed signal flares.Authorities say the aircraft was escorted out of the restricted area by the F-16 without further incident. 634

Another Confederate statue came down on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus this week.A crowd of nearly 250 protestors took down the statue known as Silent Sam on the eve of the new school year.According to a school website, the statue was built in 1913 and was put up to commemorate Confederate soldiers from the university, "who died for their beloved Southland" during the Civil War.The removal of the statue comes months after students and some faculty began calling for it to be taken down.As that played out in North Carolina, another monumental change occurred in Oklahoma, as the Tulsa Public Schools, after weeks of debate, voted to rename Robert E. Lee Elementary School.In the past three years, over 100 Confederate monuments have been removed. However, far more remain, and are still being cataloged.  They’re also not just in the south.According to a recent report by the Southern Poverty Law Center, more than 1,700 monuments and namesakes, commemorating the Confederacy remain."The SPLC, of course, does not support destruction of memorials,” says Lecia Brooks, with the SPLC. “We just believe they should be removed from public space to a place where they can be taught about in context-- to a museum, to an archive.”Brooks says the two events this week, both occurring at the very start of the school year, sends a message that the debate is far from over."College admins do themselves a disservice and underplay the students if they think that they’re just going to simply forget about these things at the end of the school year and come back and start a school year anew with the same monuments existing,” Brooks says. “I think it’s wonderful.
