SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - A Solana Beach cafe is rebounding after a theft over the summer, new coronavirus restrictions and wintry weather.Back in August, seven of Homestead Cafe and Market's tables and chairs were stolen. Police found the culprit and got back most of their outdoor dining furniture. The entire time, the community has wrapped their arms around the mom and pop shop."People are still coming by wanting to bring stuff asking what we need," co-owner of the restaurant Marie Brawn said, thankfully."They wanted to make sure that we knew that they still want a place like this to be around after this whole mess," she said alluding to the constantly changing coronavirus guidelines for restaurants. She said many small businesses like them in the area have been shutting down."It's a bit of a roller coaster, it's been very humbling," co-owner Jamie Brawn said. The couple was ahead of the curve when the county announced San Diego was in the purple most restrictive tier this week. They already had all their dining outside. When they made that move, they were ahead of the forecast, thinking to add a waterproof custom made patio cover and heat lamps."Through the generosity of our neighbors, we were actually able to do it and get ready for winter coming," Marie said. She said a couple of loyal customers even came and sat under their new patio in the rain last weekend.Inside their cafe has been redesigned into an organic market, filled with produce, specialty cheeses, Italian sauces, beer, wine, breakfast items. They also have items for those with dietary restrictions and gifts for the holiday season. The market helps them with the overhead, keeping the business afloat. On top of it all, they're balancing distance learning with their two boys and charity work, feeding families in need in North County. "Food insecurity even before the pandemic was a huge thing on our minds and something that with the pandemic we want to keep going," Jamie said. They've donated 28,000 meals since April and hope to fund-raise through the end of the year to supply more families more food as the holidays grow closer. 2132

Someone is making death threats against a 10-year-old girl at her school in Framingham, Mass. The girl is a fifth grader at Hemenway Elementary and the two notes directed at her have now drawn the attention of Framingham Police. It was Friday morning when the Muslim youngster went to her classroom cubby and found a note calling her a “terrorist.”“She was visibly upset, she was crying,” her uncle Jamaal Siddiqui said. “That’s not what Islam teaches, and that’s not what Muslims are.”Her uncle says the principal visited each classroom urging the culprit to come forward with an apology and sent an email to parents condemning the incident.“Hate is not brought from birth, it is embedded into a human being either by parents or their surroundings,” Siddiqui said.On Tuesday morning, there was a second note, this time saying “I will kill you.”“Just the thought of that makes me feel sick to my stomach,” Siddiqui said. The principal quickly brought the superintendent and police onboard, but despite their safety concerns, the little girl’s family has not pulled her out of class.“If we take her out of school it’s just going to show that we can’t stand up to the situation,” Siddiqui said. The principal says many classmates have rallied around the student and some disgusted parents did the same.“It’s absolutely devastating and I don’t want this to happen in my child’s school at all,” one parent said.“It’s nuts basically,” another parent said. “Hard to believe this thing could happen.”So far, school officials and police have not been able to ID the handwriting or trace the notebook paper. Her family has urged the young victim to smile through it and not become bitter, but know that’s a tall order for a 10-year-old.“It’s sad, it’s sad that kids at such a young age have to deal with this,” Siddiqui said. The girl’s parents will meet with school officials and police Wednesday to discuss a safety plan going forward. The FBI announced Tuesday that hate crimes in this country are up 17 percent this year. 2017

Seven years ago, a Pasco County, Florida family was torn apart when an out of control driver ran down a group of girls, killing a 5-year-old triplet. Now that family is being tormented all over again. In the years since Delaney Rossman was killed, her surviving sisters have still managed to thrive.“The girls are really good. They are 13 now; very active in the community, doing everything they can to be normal kids,” mother Danielle Malm said.Malm said right after the crash, many well meaning people reached out offering support.“It was wonderful. The condolences, and we appreciated everything that everybody had to say.But one of them has crossed the line.“She’s threatened the girls," Malm said. "She’s threatened us with death. She’s threatened my nieces.”Under different Facebook profiles the person has sent disturbing messages to Danielle and her family. One says “Delaney is DEAD. Hahahah.”Another says “I’m going to harm your family.”Other messages are just too vulgar to show.“The main thing is she’s been fixated on the fact that Delaney died and Gabrielle lived.”Danielle says the person even contacted the girl’s school trying to get more personal information. Blocking the harasser isn’t helping, because the person creates fake profiles posing as family. They send friend requests to everyone on Malm’s list. The family believes the person lives out of the country, but isn’t sure. “It gnaws at you. Where is this woman at? Why is she fixated on us today? Why won’t she just let it go?” she said.Facebook says to report anyone whose behavior is abusive and change privacy settings.Law enforcement can subpoena Facebook to try and track down someone making threats, but they admit, if the person is out of the country, there’s not much they can do. 1794

Snapchat as you know it may soon disappear.Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, said Tuesday that it is planning to redesign the messaging application to make it easier to use after facing several consecutive quarters of anemic user growth."One thing that we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback," Evan Spiegel, Snap's CEO, said in prepared remarks for an earnings call Tuesday.Spiegel added that the redesign could be "disruptive" to Snap's business in the short term. "We don't yet know how the behavior of our community will change when they begin to use our updated application," he said. The announcement came after yet another disappointing quarter for the newly public company.Snapchat added just 4.5 million new daily active users in the third quarter, bringing its total audience to 178 million daily users. Instagram Stories, a Snapchat knockoff product, recently hit 300 million daily users. The company's losses more than tripled from the previous year to 3 million in the third quarter, while its sales fell well short of Wall Street estimates.Even Snap's first foray into hardware appears to be a failure. The company took a nearly million writedown for excess inventory of Spectacles, its smart glasses.Snap stock plunged as much as 20% in after hours trading Tuesday following the earnings report. 1437

is home in Arizona."I was with my father at his end as he was with me at my beginning. In the thirty-three years we shared together, he raised me, taught me, corrected me, comforted me, encouraged me and supported me in all things," Meghan McCain wrote. "He loved me, and I loved him. He taught me how to live. His love and his care, ever-present, always unfailing, took me from a girl to a woman -- and he showed me what it is to be a man."Meghan continued "all that I am is thanks to him. Now that he is gone, the task of my lifetime is to live up to his example, his expectations and his love.""My heart is broken. I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years," Cindy McCain wrote. "He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the place he loved best." 1065
