Loved ones held a fundraiser today for the family of a mother killed by a hit-and-run driver. The CHP says Bernadette Castillo was struck last week along the 94 in Jamul. Her family and friends held a barbeque to raise funds for her funeral at Colina Del Sol Park on Friday.July 27th was a day that Debra Marulli will never forget. "Shock. Pain. A little bit of comfort because I know she’s not hurting," said Marulli. "Somebody loves her. To leave her on the side of the road like she’s an old pet, it's cruel." Loved ones held on to positive memories today while raising money for her funeral. "She was amazing," said Marulli. "She went out of her way to help anybody. She didn’t hold a grudge against people."The CHP has not identified a suspect. Many mental health facilities were closed earlier this year due to the pandemic, so therapists had to find new ways to reach their patients. Over the course of 2020, providers have come up with a number of innovative ways to help -- such as by using biofeedback devices.“They're really visually able to see OK, this is actually working and calming me down. And secondarily for our therapist, it allows them another data point to watch what their patient is doing,” Brett Shrewsbury, chief commercial officer for Meru Health, said.It’s just one of the tools in the toolbox for mental health therapists to better connect with and understand their patients without meeting in person.“It allows us and the therapist to take the patient through exercises of deep breathing and heart rate variability and shows visually, within our app and the Bluetooth connection we have, how their deep breathing is having a positive impact,” Shrewsbury said. “We built a program that solely is to treat depression and anxiety effectively. MILAN (AP) — The Mount Etna observatory says lava and ash are spewing from a new fracture on the active Sicilian volcano amid an unusually high level of seismic activity.The Etna observatory said a swarm of 130 tremors have been recorded by Monday midday, the most powerful registering a magnitude of 4.0. It reported lava flows from the volcano and said a new fracture had opened near its southeast crater.The owner of a refuge on the volcano says hikers are being brought down from higher elevations to 1,900 meters (6,230 feet) for their safety. But there are no reports of injuries, and so far the spewing ash was not causing disruptions to residents of nearby towns and cities.Etna, the largest of Italy's three active volcanoes, has been particularly active since July. 783

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's office for environmental protection says it has filed a criminal complaint against the organizers of the Score Baja 1000 off-road race for damaging protected desert areas.The office said Thursday that some participants in the Nov. 14-18 race departed from agreed-on routes and damaged cactuses and other desert plants in the Valle de los Cirios protected area. Inspectors found damaged choya, agave and cardon plants.Score International spokesman Juan Tintos Funcke says the Reno, Nevada-based company has not received any formal notification from Mexican authorities.
