DETROIT — A flyer distributed around the west side of Detroit is causing concern. Is it racist? Is it real? Is it reversing Detroit's history?The flyer is an advertisement for a community discussion about "White integration into the Russell Woods-Sullivan area." The neighborhood has been majority black for years, but gentrification has recently brought more white people to the area. Rhonda J. Smith organized the meeting and wrote the flyers. She says she chose the wording deliberately to hit some nerves. She's lived in the Russell Woods-Sullivan neighborhood for more than 20 years and is seeing a change with more white people moving into homes."I was tired of hearing the same story about the white gentrifiers and the black victims," Smith said. "I wanted to see if there is another angle I can approach."She's a fellow with the Detour Detroit online newsletter.Smith says some of her black neighbors have complained to her about new white residents walking their dogs and messing up their yards. Corpus Christi, Texas, police say there will be no charges filed after a compact SUV ran over a grandmother.The incident happened near an intersection around 4:45 pm Friday.According to the police, a grandmother was walking in the crosswalk with her granddaughter. The granddaughter made it to the sidewalk before the grandmother could. Seconds later, a compact SUV making a left onto Baldwin struck the grandmother at a slow speed and ran over the grandmother.The grandmother suffered severe injuries, but medics told investigators the injuries appear to be non-life threatening.Police said the driver of the compact SUV told investigators she didn't see the grandmother because of the sunset. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene of the crash, according to police. 783

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said Wednesday that the "breaking point has arrived this week" for the US immigration system.Speaking from El Paso, Texas, the head of the US border security agency said that on Monday, CBP encountered the highest total number of migrants in years, with more than 4,000 in a single day, the vast majority of which were apprehensions of people illegally crossing the border.That number was broken again on Tuesday.McAleenan said the agency is on pace to apprehend and encounter "over 100,000" migrants this month. DETROIT — Detroit Police Chief James Craig said they are looking for a serial killer and rapist that is operating on the city's east side.According to police, the chief said they have been in the middle of the investigation which started several months ago, beginning with an incident March 19 where the female victim was totally disrobed. Chief Craig said that on May 24, on the east side of Detroit, there was another death that was believed to be connected to the March 19 incident.
