SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Southern California's theme parks are gearing up for holiday fun starting this month.Disneyland, California Adventure, Legoland, and more welcome in the holidays this month with several special events, parades, activities, and treats for guests to enjoy.Here's a look at what parks are planning this holiday season for guests and when the fun begins:Disneyland: The holidays return to Disneyland Park from Nov. 8 through Jan. 6, 2020, bringing fireworks, parades, and delicious treats to Anaheim. Disney characters create a magical winter wonderland during the "Believe ... in Holiday Magic" fireworks show and "A Christmas Fantasy" parade with Elsa, Mickey, Santa, and others. Street Party" ushers in the season with folklórico and samba dancers, and Cars Land zooms into the holidays with special decorations and Luigi's Joy to the Whirl and Mater's Jingle Jamboree attractions. Park officials issued a statement on Monday to announce the March 10 closure due to “possible periods of significant rain and high winds.”Park officials say they anticipate opening again on Wednesday, March 11. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State Students created public service announcements, as part of a competition, to encourage their peers to take precautions and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Thursday the university announced two more students tested positive for the virus, making the total four since move in.The County of San Diego and SDSU will use the PSAs online as part of a new ad campaign, according to the county.The university came to the county amid a spike in cases among young people age 20-29. San Diego County reported 25% of positive cases belong to that age group."We're asking people of your generation of your age group to do the right thing," Dr. Hala Madanat, Director of the School of Public Health at SDSU, said. She led the charge to create the competition."I really was hoping that we would hear from the age group where we were struggling to get adherence to the guidelines and be the ones to encourage their peers," to follow the guidelines she said.One of the three winners, Senior JakeBryan Bonifacio, said he felt an obligation to use his skills to help. "It [the pandemic] is very concerning so that’s why I felt compelled to share this opportunity, share my video."Bonifacio is a Marketing major and already had the tools to create a video. He said he used his own camera and editing software.He said it was most important to create an impact using levity and positivity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several Californians are suing a state senator for blocking them on his Twitter page, a lawsuit which could impact how all members of the public are allowed to interact with their elected officials.The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) violated the rights of several people when he blocked them. Pan is the senator who wrote the 2015 California law that requires children to get vaccinated before going to school.Those who are suing Pan are advocates against vaccination. Pan and other lawmakers argue that people should not be allowed to post or comment what he considers to be false and misleading claims about the safety of vaccination on his page, which he says helps spread dangerous information.RELATED: DOJ to appeal ruling that Trump cannot block social media usersBut others argue that the social media pages of elected officials are public forums, therefore open to everyone with speech protected by the first amendment. Specifically, they accuse Pan of viewpoint discrimination.Earlier this year, a judge ruled in a case against President Donald Trump, who blocked several political opponents and was sued on similar grounds.But such a precedent could go beyond protecting the ability to post a point of view. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Starting Monday, CVS Pharmacy will begin giving COVID-19 vaccines to staff and residents at California's long term care facilities. On Dec. 18, the first shot was given by a CVS employee at a nursing home in Connecticut."We'll be putting 9,000 vaccinators on the road to give those vaccines across the country," Jonathan Roberts, Vice President of CVS Health, said then.Ten days later, CVS pharmacy will begin its 12-week vaccination program at California's skilled nursing facilities and assisted living centers. The company expects to give the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to around 700,000 people at 15,000 facilities across the state."Retail pharmacies are the foundation of the approach here, both because we are convenient and we're everywhere," Dr. Troy Brennan, Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health, said.Earlier this month, the federal government awarded Walgreens and CVS contracts to roll out the vaccines because of already existing infrastructure and staff. CVS vaccinators will visit each facility at least three times for boosters and check-ups within the 12-week rotation.After this initial phase, CVS executives say they will move onto the next tier of priority recipients, which includes essential workers, older Americans, and those with chronic illnesses."We have the best chance of being able to reach the public, and the public likes that approach," Dr. Brennan said.Both pharmacies already use their websites and apps, where people can make COVID testing appointments.
