DENVER — An Uber driver kicked a passenger out of their vehicle after a passenger who claimed to have COVID-19 took off her mask, started coughing and refused to put it back on.The Uber driver, who asked to remain anonymous, says he picked up the passenger just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday in Denver. He said the passenger got in the car with a mask on, but she started coughing and took it off once she was inside."You know in this day and age, you should probably have a mask, especially since it's the law and you're sick," the driver told the passenger, according to dash camera video. The woman told the driver that she's not sick. But later, the driver asked if she had COVID-19."Yep, sure do," the passenger said."You said you did?" the driver responded. "Is that the truth? Please, it's my life."The woman ignored the driver and said he needed to take her to her destination. The driver then lost his temper and kicked the woman out of his car."I was angry that someone would be so callous and cavalier with my life," the driver said. "At the end of the ride, when she got out, she said, you've got COVID-19."He filed a complaint with Uber and received an email stating that they would reach out to the rider and take appropriate action. But the driver said someone else ordered the ride for the woman."In this instance, I don't know that Uber could have done anything differently," he said. "She had a mask on when she got in. She was doing everything that she was supposed to."Uber policy requires drivers and passengers to wear a mask and adds that drivers can cancel trips if they don't feel comfortable. In response to a request for comment, Uber laid out the policy and procedures it has implemented in the hopes of keeping people safe, which includes denying passengers access to Uber if they repeatedly violate the mask policy."Her lack of caring for another person is costing me my livelihood as well as potentially getting sick and possibly worse," the driver said.He says he began driving for Uber more than a year ago and has picked up and dropped off hundreds of passengers. He added that Tuesday's incident was the first time he'd had issues with a passenger refusing to wear a mask. The 13-minute ride just under eight miles cost .28, but the driver says it will cost him much more."I am not going to give any more rides until I've let an appropriate time pass by and I've been tested," he said. This story was originally published by Adi Guajardo on KMGH in Denver. 2492

Delta and American are following the example set by United Airlines and saying they will drop an unpopular 0 fee on customers who change a ticket for travel within the United States.Change fees are a lucrative extra for airlines, but the carriers are dropping the fees as they try desperately to lure people back to flying."By eliminating change fees, giving customers an opportunity to get where they want to go faster with free same-day standby on earlier flights and providing access to upgrades and seats for all fare types, we’re giving customers the freedom to make their own choices when traveling with American,” said American’s Chief Revenue Officer, Vasu Raja.Normally in summer, 2 million or more people pass through security checkpoints at U.S. airports each day. That number hasn’t been above 900,000 since the early days of the pandemic in mid-March.Airlines have tried mandatory face masks, extra cleaning of planes, and other measures to convince people to fly. 988

DEHESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Cal Fire completed even more training this year, this time integrated with other agencies, sharpening their firefighting skills.Cal Fire sprang into action Wednesday, attacking the Vista Fire in Dehesa."I was shocked, so many helicopters, dropping off so many bodies, when you looked at the hill, gosh I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say there were 100 firefighters on that hill," neighbor Sherry German said. When the fire started, German's dog Joey let her know something was wrong. When she let him out, she heard the sirens coming, turned and saw the flames right next-door."I panicked when I saw the flames, I told my husband I'm out of here, I'm grabbing the dog, I'm grabbing my work and I'm out of here," German said. Some of the force fighting that fire took off from the Ramona Air Attack Base. On the tarmac perch two planes equipped to make retardant drops, a guide plane for the air buses, two tanks holding 50,000 gallons of retardant mixed with water, ready to go. They also have more than a dozen bags of red retardant powder, each weighing a ton. They used two and a half bags in the Vista Fire fight."This is the peak part of our season so we're definitely staffed up and ready to go, Cal Fire has a ton of resources," Public Information Officer Thomas Shoots said. He said the extra training integrated with other agencies is what strengthened their ability to respond instantaneously."We've been blessed with a couple weeks of marine layer and cooler weather but it is getting hotter it is getting drier," he said, concerned about the rest of the summer.German said she feels safe knowing how fast they respond, "the fact that it actually came close to a number of my neighbor's properties, in yet they were on it so fast that no property damage was done and really it was remarkable, I'm so grateful." 1857

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will remain in his home state of Delaware on Wednesday while President Donald Trump continues full speed ahead with his busy rally schedule.Trump will court voters in two western swing states on Wednesday — Nevada and Arizona. The President will appear at a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona — a city located at the border of Nevada's southern tip — at 3 p.m. ET. He'll later head to the Phoenix area and hold a rally in Goodyear at 5:45 p.m. ET.Trump carried Arizona by a 48% to 44% margin in 2016, but recent polls show voters are leaning toward Biden this year.Nevada went for former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton in the last presidential election and broke for President Barack Obama in 2012. Biden is also favored to take the state in 2020.Biden remained in his home state of Delaware on Wednesday and received a briefing from public health experts regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. During remarks following the briefing, Biden urged all Americans to continue wearing masks, calling it "patriotic" and "not political." Biden also criticized the Trump administration's handling of the pandemic, hitting the President on everything from his health care plan to recent comments from administration officials."We've lost more than 220,000 lives of this virus already. But this administration has just given up," Biden said. "Over the weekend, the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, went on television and admitted that they've waived the white flag and declared surrender. He said, quote, 'we're not going to control the pandemic.' The American people deserve so much better than this."Trump often hits on Biden for "hiding" from the media and avoiding large rallies. Biden has been less visible than the President and held fewer rallies, and has instead opted for more speeches and remarks designed for a national TV audience. With election day six days away, Americans have been voting early at a record pace. While Biden continues to lead in national polls, the margins in some key swing states are a bit slimmer. 2070
