SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego businessman pleaded guilty in federal court on Wednesday to charges of bank fraud and tax evasion in connection with failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in income and fraudulently obtaining a mortgage.David Daughtrey, 60, of El Cajon, admitted to evading taxes by failing to report 8,612 of income to the IRS and also fraudulently obtaining a mortgage for his .8 million home using a third party, U.S. District Attorney officials said.As part of his plea agreement, Daughtrey will pay ,016,457.91 in restitution to the IRS. "Mr. Daughtrey blatantly disregarded his tax obligations for years. The defendant not only abused the tax system for his own financial benefit, but conspired to commit bank fraud in order to maintain this lifestyle."Daughtrey admitted that from July 2006 until April 2016, he conspired with others to commit bank fraud and tax evasion. As part of the fraud scheme, he directed another person to submit a mortgage application to Wells Fargo to buy a .8 million five-bedroom home, officials say, and falsely claim that the fund used as a down payment belonged to a third party and the third party would be the primary homeowner.In reality, Daughtrey provided the funds and the house was intended to be his primary residence. He later submitted a false hardship letter on behalf of the third party to get the bank to modify the terms of the home loan, officials added.He also admitted that over several years, he and his spouse, who is not charged in the case, conspired to falsely report total income in tax years 2012 through 2015. Officials say in 2012, Daughtrey omitted at least 8,612 in income and the IRA tax loss for years 2012-2014 was 6,536. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A program at the East Mesa Reentry facility is helping inmates transition out of jail and back into the workforce.This program is offering inmates certificates in trades which include welding, construction, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and more. The participants study and earn these certificates for free. The reentry program is helping over 700 men head back into the workforce in a positive way.“It’s something that they can give back to the community later on in life, where at one point they took away, but now they feel like they actually achieved something,” said Detron Williams. Williams is a few months away from earning a trade certificate in construction.The reentry program not only focuses on education but also helps inmates understand their emotions and build confidence. “They’ve built the confidence now, and they have learned the different techniques so that when they are out in the community they can either start a new life or they can go back to the work that they previously had,” Matt Russo said.For Williams and the other inmates he has talked to, this program also provides a sense of accomplishment.“Now they are building structures that later on in the future they can drive by and say I built that, I helped that,” Williams said. 1301

During the address, the President made an appeal to the American people on border security and a proposed border wall. Of 1,000 people asked for the 10News/Union Tribune poll, 35 percent say they watched the address while 32 percent say they didn’t. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Point Loma woman says while her family was sleeping, someone was in her home stealing from them.Tucked away on a hill along scenic La Crescentia Drivel, the serenity was interrupted when Teresa Cesear and her husband got up around 5 a.m. Wednesday."Panic, absolutely panic," said Cesear.Cesear says her purse and laptop bag — computer inside — were not where she had placed them on her kitchen stool.Reality quickly set in. Those items didn't disappear on their own. "My entire personal and work life were in those two bags. Then came the fear and sense of violation," said Cesear.The violation happened quietly as she, her husband, and her grown son slept."The police said that they must have looked in the window. There's a nightlight in the kitchen, so they see my laptop and purse and somehow got this locked kitchen door open," said Cesear.Among the missing items were credit cards, keys and one special key: The original key to her 1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia."Really sad ... It's an important part of it because it's a very unique key," said Cesear.The break-in is the second burglary in her cul-de-sac in the past few months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A runaway boat became lodged on rocks after taking off while the owner was trying to dock the vessel Monday afternoon.Captain Tony Olson with TowBoatUS San Diego said a man sailing from Harbor Island was trying to dock at Shelter Island when the boat took off.According to Olson, the man was trying to tie the boat off with the sail partially up and the motor running, causing it to take off without him.The 35-foot vessel became lodged on rocks at the Naval Base.It took a while for the boat to become dislodged. Olson says there doesn’t appear to be any major damage to the vessel.Olson noted that this is one of several boats that ran aground Monday.A 19-foot vessel, pictured below, also smashed into rocks at the foot of Point Loma. The Coast Guard warned people traveling through marine channel 16 of the boat that ran aground.  872
