China's natural gas output would at least double the present volume in the coming decade to reach 150 billion to 200 billion cubic meters, PetroChina Vice President Jia Chengzao said on Tuesday.     PetroChina, the country's leading natural gas producer, alone has reported an annual output rise of 10 billion cubic meters for two consecutive years, he said.     "We will strive to keep the same growth rate this year," said Jia, a member of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who is attending the annual political advisory session.     His company produces about 75 percent of China's total natural gas output.     Recent discoveries of new gas fields, including Jidong Nanpu Oil Field in north China's Bohai Bay, which contains 1.18 billion tons of oil and gas reserves, would boost China's natural gas sector and optimize its energy structure, said Jia.     "China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will probably announce the proven reserves of the Longgang gasfield in the southwestern Sichuan Province around the end of this year," he said.     Industry insiders believe the Longgang gasfield contains at least 700 billion cubic meters of estimated reserves.     China's natural gas output reached 69.31 billion cubic meters last year, up 23.1 percent year-on-year, according to China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.     Listed in Hong Kong and New York, PetroChina Company Limited is the listing arm of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the largest oil producer of China.

China Railway Construction Corp. (CRCC), the country's leading rail builder, may raise as much as 22.25 billion yuan (3.1 billion U.S. dollars) in its initial public offering (IPO) in Shanghai.     In a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange late Sunday, the state-owned company said it has cut the number of A shares it is offering to 2.45 billion from 2.8 billion after reconsidering its capital demand.     The 2.45 billion shares represent 23.44 percent of CRCC's outstanding capital. The firm had built nearly 34,000 kilometers of rails by the end of 2006, more than half of all the rail links built nationwide since 1949.     On Feb. 14, CRCC was given green light by the China Securities Regulatory Commission to issue no more than 2.8 billion A shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.     The IPO price range was set between 8 to 9.08 yuan and it translated into 26.92 to 30.56 earnings multiples after the domestic share sale, according to the statement.     The company would start to receive from institutional investors orders for its 612.5 million shares, or 25 percent of the offering, on Feb. 25 and 26. The retail investors would be able to subscribe for the remaining shares on Feb. 26, the statement noted.     CRCC also planned to sell no more than 1.71 billion H shares in Hong Kong.     The company established its name by building the Qinghai-Tibet railroad, Shanghai maglev rail line and the Beijing-Kowloon railway. They are both in exile after their illegal acts to subvert the Chinese government and the Chinese people ended in constant failures under the august Chinese Constitution and laws; Shared nature--They are both not resigned to failures and attempt to hoodwink and manipulate their few domestic followers to carry on making turbulence and to hold back the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; Shared intention--They are both hostile to their motherland and regard the 1.3 million Chinese as enemies, dreaming a pipe dream of returning to China, with the support of their masters, to materialize their evil objective of splitting China. Imagine the 14th ** Lama, the self-proclaimed "religious leader", even condescended to associate with Li Hongzhi who has been labeled by the United International World Buddhism Association Headquarters as a preacher of evil cult and a swindler! This obviously reflects that the 14th ** Lama has cornered himself into a dead end!

Chinese officials said water quality was improving in the country's third-largest lake, choked by a polluted slick of algae, but experts warned that tap water in the area was still not safe, state media reported on Saturday. Taihu Lake, in the southern province of Jiangsu, has been struck by a foul-smelling canopy of algae that left tap water undrinkable for more than 2.3 million residents of nearby Wuxi and prompted a run on bottled water at local supermarkets. Residents said the government was telling them it was safe to drink boiled water, but complained that it still had an unappealing green film on top. Environment experts said it was unlikely to be fit to drink. "Although quality of the water supply has improved significantly on Friday and now it is safe for washing hands or clothes, it still takes some time to become drinkable," the Zhang Xiaojian, an environment specialist at Tsinghua University in Beijing said. Algae blooms can develop in water that is rich in nutrients, often because of run-off from heavy fertiliser use, industrial waste and untreated sewage. Officials have invoked emergency measures, diverting the Yangtze river and seeding clouds to provoke rainfall, to try to flush out the algae. Heavy rainfall is also expected in the area in the next few days. Residents of Wuxi said the algae, which they said smelt like rotten meat, was driving a roaring trade at McDonald's and KFC fast-food outlets in the city. "Here they fry food," said a company manager named Zhao as he queued at KFC. "I can't eat dumplings or noodles because they would be cooked in water and it's too expensive to use bottled water."
