SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starting Monday, San Diego County residents will be able to cast their ballots early for the Nov. 3 election.The San Diego County Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa, located at 5600 Overland Ave., will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to allow San Diegans to vote early.Due to coronavirus-related health and safety restrictions, voters must wear a mask and practice social distancing. There’s going to be a lot of changes in the next year or two,” Milburn told ABC 10News.Sisco added, “I had to come and vote. To be honest, I felt bad I didn’t start voting until Obama came into office. I should have been voting even back then.”Both decided to come early concerned about having to wait in long lines which election officials want people to be mindful of. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego veterans from WWII and the Korean War are getting ready for a special trip. This weekend they'll board an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.10News is getting exclusive access to the trip and was at Honor Flight San Diego's last planning meeting before the special weekend gets off the ground. David Smith, Founder of Honor Flight San Diego, says it's incredibly important to thank our veterans while there's still time. The oldest veteran on this weekend's flight will be 99-years-old. "I've actually had veterans come up to me and say, 'ya know, in all these years no one has ever said thank you to me - this means so much'," said Smith.The group relies on fundraising to make the honor flight a reality - it costs 0,000 for the entire weekend.Our coverage of the Honor Flight continues Friday morning when Reporter Amanda Brandeis boards the plane with the veterans and will continue through Sunday when they all return to San Diego. Honor Flight San Diego welcomes the community to join the Sunday's homecoming at the San Diego International Airport. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some families scrambling to deal with the challenges of distance learning will be getting some help from an unlikely source.For La Jolla High junior Katie Frost, 16, the upcoming school year will be a busy one. She's on the school's track team and JV basketball squad. Along with the usual coarse load, she will be taking college entrance exams. Frost has just added something else to her plate."During these times, people should think of ways to push themselves outside their comfort zone to help," said Frost.Keenly aware of how families are juggling the challenges served up with distance learning, Frost decided to offer free zoom tutoring sessions in math and English for local elementary and middle school students."I know how difficult school can be. I struggled in elementary school ... With the added stresses of distance learning, I'm just want to do my part to help these families and to help the kids excel," said Frost.Frost posted her services on the Nextdoor app, even put out an application. She already has four kids signed up and that number is expected to grow. Depending on the response, she could recruit her friends to create a tutoring club to help more families. Frost says she hopes other teens will also step up and volunteer their time tutoring as well."Instead of thinking of these times as a pause, you can think of it as a time you can change your life and the lives of others. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students are being warned to look out for a man who fondled a woman on campus this week.An unknown man approached a woman near the campus's music building as she was walking to Campanile Walk Thursday just before 9 p.m., according to SDSU campus police.Police said the man told the woman how pretty she was and tried to hug her. The woman tried to walk away twice and the man tried to hug her twice. police said.The man the groped the woman's buttocks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is alerting students who may have been exposed to meningococcal meningitis.The university says they were notified that a current student has a “probable case of meningococcal meningitis.”The university said in a tweet that it is immediately hosting two clinics for those who attended specific events with the student. The events were the Delta Sigma Phi Formal, held Friday, April 12, from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Spark Encore Event Center; and the Delta Sigma Phi Social Event, which was held Saturday, April 13, from 9:30 p.m. to Midnight, at the organization’s chapter facility. Students who attended the events are urged to attend one of the two clinics that are being offered for free at SDSU. The most common symptoms of meningococcal meningitis are fever, headache and a stiff neck, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
